Awesome place. Has a great location, laid back feel and is an animal hospital if that is your thing. Mick and Michelle are incredibly kind and helpful in giving you your bearings in the area. I went out of season and had a great time.

The place and staff are very relaxed and friendly. The cabins have fridges and a little balcony as well as a fan. On the hottest days the wooden cabins still cooled down in the evening. The toilets and showers are very good. The common area is great to chill out or watch a film on Netflix. There are plenty of places to sit inside and outside. The kitchen is big and fully equipped + bbqs . You can walk to the Beach in a few mins. Surrounded by trees. Kangaroos birds but of course many spiders

Me and my girlfriend had a really nice stay in Melaleuca recently. First of all we loved the location. Staying in the middle of the bush, amidst possums and koockaburra's, is not too bad, huh? Not to mention Josy, the 'housekangaroo'. The facilities were plenty: good utensils, a clean kitchen, and a cosy but spacious common, main area. From the hostel it's just a short walk to the nearest beach, which is nice for swimming as well for surfing (well, if you're a beginner). Strongly recommended!

Quirky place with friendly vibe. Bit of a building site in Dec 2017. Nice to meet their pet kangaroo.

I stayed in the hostel for 2 nights, the beds were comfortable however the shower block was cold due to it being an open block. The wifi only worked when there was only a couple of people using it. I arrived in the dark and the hostel and there was no lighting down the street to get to it or at the entrance where the sign was. The staff were friendly and helpful though, and the hostel is easily accessible by public transport and if I was to return to Port Stephens again I would stay again.
