Property Description

Accommodation. Restaurant. Bar. Adventure Tours.
Midgard is your base for adventure travel in South Iceland. We are a local family business offering a unique combo: with Midgard Base Camp as hostel/hotel and restaurant and Midgard Adventure as a tour operator and travel agency.

Midgard is located in central South Iceland, in Hvolsvöllur, a small town of 900 inhabitants. Midgard is run by family and friends so this is the place where you can meet with locals and fellow travelers.

We are really proud of our location. The main tourist sights, such as Seljalandsfoss, Skógafoss, the black Sand Beach, the Golden Circle (with Geysir, Gullfoss and Þingvellir) are all easily reachable. Those or the main tourist sights of South Iceland. What we are more proud of is though our backyard, where you find Iceland off the beaten path, the real Iceland. Our small town builds the gate to the natural beauties of Fjallabak, Landmannalaugar and Thórsmörk.
With Midgard Adventure, our own travel agency and tour operator, we are offering tours into these areas. Please check out our for more infos on tours, activities and things to do in the area.

Midgard Base Camp is very much a place from which to come and go, before and after exploring the spectacular natural environments that are all around. Midgard is a place to tell your stories of the day and to hear those of others. Midgard is a place to relax, to refresh and to recharge (both yourself and your camera and ‘phone batteries!). In addition, we offer several kind of accommodations from dorms to private spaces that will suit to any kind of guest and traveller. A big plus that is much appreciated by our guests is our rooftop hottub and sauna with views on grazing horses and world-famous volcano Eyjafjallajökull.
As we decided to open up a restaurant and a bar together with the accommodation, Midgard Basecamp does not provide a self-catering kitchen. We offer coffee and tea free of charge.

One of the cleanest hostels I’ve stayed in. Friendly staff and a hot tub and sauna on the roof you should take advantage of if you’ve got the time.

Really great time here. I lucked into a dorm room by myself, which was awesome. Not too many people around during my visit, but the accommodations were super clean, hot showers, and comfortable bed. I’d recommend visiting and would definitely stay again

Midgard Base Camp was fantastic! Very cool decor but cosy as well, the free tea and coffee was great an we had a delicious evening meal there. We had lots of wet clothing and boots which we were able to dry in the drier and the hot tub and sauna were perfect for warming up after a day in the rain. Rooms and bathrooms were super clean and comfortable. Unfortunately, we didn't have time to book one of the organised tours, they look great. A good excuse to come back to this fab, family-run hostel!!

This hostel was so far the best overall hoste I’ve stayed in. From the staff, to accommodations, to cleanliness, everything was amazing. The location is also makes everything accessible down in the south. The only thing that I wish they had was a full kitchen to cook food so I did not have to buy food. Food was delicious anyway, especially the potatoes. From the sounds of it, they are in the process to making that happen so even better.

Fantastic place to stay, i’d even go to say the best hostel I’ve ever stayed in. The set up is fantastic, they have a comuninal area to chill in after a long day, accompanied by great food, friendly staff and well equipped bar. The rooms are new and clean with the plug sockets and storage facilities you need whilst travelling. It is so obvious this hostel has been set up by someone who has travelled. Cherry on top was the hot tub- absolutely fantastic & would highly recommed! X

Enjoyed it so much that we booked to stay again on our way back to Reykjavik 😁 Staff are great and super friendly and overall the facilities are also wonderful - the hot tub and sauna are a big bonus! Will be back for sure!
