Property Description

Located in the heart of the UNESCO World Heritage Jungfrau region, the Mountain Hostel Gimmelwald is simply love at first sight. Buzzing with travelers from around the world, it is quite common to come here for a day and stay for weeks.

With perfect access to the many hiking trails from our front door, we also make a great base for outdoor activities such as paragliding, rafting, via ferrata, and more. The hostel seems to attract a certain type of traveller – social, fun, respectful and adventurous with a love for the natural beauty that the Alps provide. A photographers dream, Gimmelwald is a place you really have to see to believe.

The easygoing and fun environment at the hostel leads to memories and friends that last a lifetime. In the evenings you will find travellers playing cards and games, guitar and piano, or sharing tales from that days hike. It’s amazing to see familiar faces that come back every year sitting side by side with new travellers in awe of the view, having a beer on the deck as the sun sets on the mountains.

The Mountain Hostel will be the highlight of your trip and an unforgettable experience. See you soon!

Such an amazing place to stay. The only thing that could make it better would be lockers for guests to lock away their stuff but we left our stuff out and it felt very safe! The location could NOT be better and the staff is awesome and offers tips for what to do! We will be back if we can!

A perfect stay for those who love nature and the outdoors. Obviously, you can't beat the view! Gimmelwald itself is a tiny old village with a humble charm and a great launching pad for outdoor activities. The hostel is restored from an aged cabin with lots of history. It can be tight but I absolutely loved it. It had a very social atmosphere perfect for meeting other travelers or planning hikes, via ferrata, watching cliff jumping, or other outdoor activities.

Mountain Hostel is located in an amazingly beautiful place. They close the hostel for cleaning from 9:30 – 11, which is a little weird. There are no locks anywhere but the village is so small everything felt very safe.

You are paying for the view, and it's more than worth it! Check-in was a little chaotic, with many people waiting for reception to open up after the midday break, but the lounge/eating area on the decks and inside are more than large enough for you to wait in. Big kitchen stocked with everything you need to make dinner (as there are no markets around, but there was plenty of "free" food leftover & they sell basics at reception), so just plan ahead! Would stay again.

This hostel is pretty epic. The location is great for hiking. The beds are different than any other hostel I’ve stayed at. The beds are literally touching, but they say that is customary in the Alps because it is remote. Go to this hostel to hike and adventure. It’s definitely not a party hostel. I will be going back.

A lot of flies while I was there. Fire ants down by the laundry area. Staff was helpful. Had enjoyable conversations with other hikers. Hostel itself was solid. You are not paying for the hostel itself; you are paying for the view and location. It will blow you away.

It’s a very special hostel. The location and the house is all Sound of Music. Absolutely stunning scenery and beautiful house. The atmosphere and the people are fun. Good breakfast. Lots of hiking nearby. If you want archetype hostel experience where you socialise with other travellers, live music and singing in the evening, 16 people dorm with bunk beds right next to each other in an alpine chalet, this is the place for you.
