Picture this – you, fruit juice in hand, soaking in a hot tub while you gaze at the stars – that’s the way we do it at Nomads Auckland! From this prime spot on our rooftop terrace, you'll have panoramic views of the city skyline and the harbour. There’s a kitchen up there, too, so you can cook while you watch the sunset. Our historic building also houses a free sauna to soothe those muscles. We’re an alcohol-free hostel, but if you’re up for a party we’ll take you down to Habana Joes – an 8-minute walk away – to mix with other travellers over cheap drinks.

We’re right in the centre of Auckland, 9 minutes' walk from the 300-metre-tall Sky Tower. From Auckland Airport, jump on the Skybus to Queen Street – 100 metres from us – and you’ll be at our hostel in around 55 minutes. Take the short stroll down Queen Street down to Queens Wharf for harbour views and bars. Want to explore more? The Downtown Ferry Terminal is 7 minutes away on foot. Hop on a boat to Birkenhead for bush walks or head out to Rakino Island for kayaking.

Rooms and Dorms

All of our private rooms have en-suite bathrooms and flatscreen TVs. A stay in our mixed and female-only dorms comes with free linen, and you can hire towels at our front desk. Backpack weighing you down? Take the elevator up to your room and get rid of your luggage in the under-bed lockers.

Extras and activities

Stop by our travel desk to ask about tours, plan your next stop or pick up your free city map. Need to take time out? Pick up a new book from the exchange in our lounge. You’ll find board games and DVDs there, too. If that isn't enough, we have free Wi-Fi, bean bags and a huge TV.

The spa was amazing, the lounge/social areas were also very nice and clean. Free wifi was great, and staff were helpful for directing me to social events at other hostels or around town.

This is not an issue by facility, but comment about my roommates. They just happened to be suitcase pigs. Their suitcases were out of control and exploded out...this made it difficult that I came in late and had to trip over clothing and shoes in the dark.

The staff were friendly and helpful. At night the staff checked our names + room #'s with their system to verify our legitimacy ( & to prevent folks who werent staying there from entering the common areas) - much appreciated! There were plenty of showers, toilets, and a nice bench with hooks above to hang your towel, caddy, etc for using the sink or after using the shower. The wifi was easy to access and reliable my entire stay. The mattress had some stains but the sheets and blankets were fresh

It was a very noisy district, the bars will end at around 3am. So I can barely sleep till then and also there’s streets under construction which will start in the morning. If you’re noisy sensitive like me, you will have a hard time to sleep.

The rooms are ok, the bathroom is a bit dirty and it's always wet. Having to enter with a code to the room is a bit annoying.

Staff really friendly. Great location. Easy to get to from airport on sky bus. Rooms and kitchens a bit crammed. Not enough fridge space. Lots of toilets and showers which were clean. Fine for 1 night stay between journeys

Great location and very friendly staff and always on hand to help! However, the kitchen was really dirty on the first day and didn’t really improve! also No where near enough room for food bags to the point people had to put it on the floor where they all got thrown out because they aren’t supposed to be there (hardly backpackers fault !!! ). If you want somewhere to sleep and not bothered about cooking facilities, somewhere to eat inside and atmosphere here would be great!

Was pretty disappointed because the room and bathrooms were filthy. The sheets were so dirty when we checked in that we assumed someone had forgotten to change them after the last person checked out. The staff was pushy with day trip bookings and messed up the ones they did organize for us. Location is great but there are multiple other hostels on the same street, for the price this one charged, just stay at one of those instead.
