Great hostel in Auckland. Love the neighborhood. The hostel is just a couple minutes walking to the main drag of this neighborhood which has great restaurants and cafes. The beds here are comfy, the kitchen is huge and the people were nice. I was only there for a night but people were friendly and social. A great hostel in Auckland!

Oaklands Lodge is exactly what I was looking for. I wanted to be centrally located without being right in the city center- which is exactly Oaklands. It's located in a beautiful neighborhood that is right next to Mt. Eden (10min hike to 360 views of city). Shops and cafes are close by.. easily walkable. The hostel itself is also an old Victorian so it feels like you're in a home versus your typical hostel. Chill vibes. Has a great kitchen, clean rooms, nice showers, laundry and garden area.

Had a good stay here. On street parking, good facilities with Netflix and wifi everywhere. Friendly staff. Quite busy. Quiet location, not that near CBD but local area has lots of restaurants etc. still.

The place is getting kinda' run down. The average visitor: rarely the typical interesting adventure traveler but instead the male 20-something slouchy poorly hygienic worker-traveler dude. They're here to sleep & work (somewhere in Auckland?) & otherwise zone into phones and hang out on the couches watching cartoons in the TV room. They are a messy lot too, the Hostel staff constantly reminding them to clean up their stuff. The staff are terrific trying their best to clean the place

    Very Good

Ian is lovely, the neighborhood is great, right next to Skybus, and loved the book selection and reading in the garden. Security: Though the rooms lock, no one ever seemed to lock them. One night, there was a 7th person in my 6-bed dorm. Atmosphere: Lots of young teenagers; overheard one conversation between German and American teenage boys disparaging women, Jewish people, and gay people. Facilities: Need more power outlets next to beds. Unfortunately, smoking was permitted out back.
