Property Description

The house was constructed sometimes in 1920s when Mr. Balili was still a bachelor.

The house served as the venue of grand social functions of Tagbilaran which were attended by prominent political and social personalities from both local and national levels.

One of those grand gatherings was the meeting of then President Roxas with Elpidio Quirino, a senator then, former governor Perfecto Balili, the brother of Eladio and some other important local political personalities.

In March 1942, the war (WWII) reached Bohol. Tagbilaran was occupied by the Japanese Imperial Army.
Almost everyone evacuated the town. The fine Balili house was requisitioned for use by high ranking Japanese officers where social gatherings were still held.

The house which still stands today, still carries the marks of its past grandeur that manifests how the Tagbilaranons lived their lives in the past.

This place is exactly what I want when travelling, a beautiful traditional house not built for a western tourist. The family are very lovely and the story of the house is lovely. Expect a warm welcome and a house full of character. Eat the street food on site food iv good cheap and the ladies running it are very funny and with great you with a smile. This is chilled hostel with basic comforts but the cool shower will do wonders after a hot day. Don’t end up in the zoo on any tour it’s bad

This has by far been my favorite hostel experience in the Philippines. The hosts were super welcoming and very helpful to show you around the things to do in Bohol. Definitely recommend. Will go there again.

BEST HOSTEL ON THE PLANET. If you hate history and hate learning about culture, then 1) stop traveling and 2) don't stay here. This hostel deserves nothing but 10. Gloria is superb and her stories are mesmeric. The staff are lovely, the food is delicious (and cheap), the grounds are peaceful, ferry is 10 min walk, motorbike rentals at property, and the only issue you'll have is your own fault. This is an extraordinary home with a long history and I am honored to have slept in it.

My only regret is that we didn't stay here longer! The owner was so friendly and truly made us feel at home. The staff bent over backwards to help us. They helped us book a tour (very last minute) and made sure we didn't get ripped off by trike drivers. Beautiful house, lovely rooms, and super clean! I only marked down security as we weren't actually given a lock for our room, but nothing was stolen so it was all ok. Would definitely recommend and would love to come here again with more time!

Great little place in the middle of town. Not much to do around the town but very convenient for the port. The owner is lovely and there is a little night market with drinks and food at the gate. Would recommend
