Our stay at Okara Guesthouse was our favourite hostel during our 3 week trip travelling around Japan. Ayumi was absolutely lovely and helped us find all the places we were looking for, as well as organising really fun social dinners where we got to make and eat delicious Japanese food which we wouldn't have had the opportunity to do otherwise. The atmosphere of the hostel is very homely, and as 2 girls we were happy that the upstairs dorm was single sex. The traditional bath was incredible too!

I have only stayed for a night yet it was an amazing one. This place is a traditional Japanese house but it has all the amenities you need. The bathroom is outside but it’s very good.

Just the most wonderful little hostel! The staff was really friendly and helpful. You really get the feeling of a little family! They have the best bathrooms ever - but note that you have to go outside to get to the toilets and showers. Doing winter it might be cold. I just really like this place!

We loved our stay here - it was a warm and inviting atmosphere and the facilities were good with a few extras like the personal traditional bath and hidden reading nook. On the downside, there was no real living room to eat breakfast in, it was the lobby/office so it wasn't as inviting and private as I would have liked. Not a bad location, but we did have to catch a bus to go anywhere.

Beautiful old Japanese wooden house with amazing staff. Loved my stay there and would go there a hundred percent again! Close to train station but 30 mins walking distance to main area for bars etc. Quiet neighbourhood so perfect if you look for a quieter and warmly welcoming place. Thank you!

Absolutely amazing, the staff were super friendly and helpful. A little hard to find at first but it's only 10 mins from Kyoto station making travel super easy. Great facilities and the beds comfy (western style) with security locks and fans. Would stay here again.
