Property Description

New hostel in the heart of Zurich with a trendy café-bar where you meet locals as well as other travellers. The former Hotel Otter changed recently into a hostel right in the old town of Zurich. The hostel is above the Wueste, a trendy café-bar. The upper floors remain with the previous hotel standard, whereas the lower floors changed into dormitories. The private rooms keep the same services as at the former hotel times with the additional use of the common room with its kitchenette and lockers.

If you are used to stay in dorms, you will appreciate the central location with the possibility to have a great night at the bar and meet many people – locals as well as other travellers. The tourist sights are all within walking distance from the hostel. The Lake of Zurich is just 200 meters away. Although the art museum and the opera house are only five minutes walking distance and the legendary Café Odeon is just around the corner.

The hostel offers 45 beds at the Oberdorfstrasse that leads through upper part of the old town. It offers 7 dorms and 8 private rooms for moderate prices.

There is a small kitchenette with a microwave, fridge and oven to prepare some small food. The eco 6-bed dorm beds get a basic self-service breakfast (toast, cereals, instant coffee, tea, orange juice, milk, jam, margarine) in the common room, whereas the private rooms, the 4-bed dorms and the standard 6-bed dorms get a bigger breakfast buffet at the café bar included in the price. Free tea and instant coffee 24 hours in the common area. We have free wifi in all rooms and although free luggage storage before check-in and after check-out in a lockerbox in the common rooms on the 2nd floor. View House Rules

Oldtown Hostel Otter is tucked away among the cobbled streets of Zürich's old town. Make like the locals as you sip a beer or coffee in our café bar before you start ticking off your must-see list. Not sure where to go? We have free city maps to help you with that. Log into the free Wi-Fi to call home or head to our lounge to catch up with other travellers. In the morning, there's a free breakfast – think tea, toast and orange juice.

From our central location, you can reach plenty of attractions on foot. We’re just 25 minutes from the airport. Take the IR13 train to Zurich Oerlikon then switch to the S9 to Zurich Stadelhofen. We’re a four-minute walk from there. The main train station, Zürich Hauptbahnhof is a 17-minute walk away. Lake Zürich is only 200 metres from our door – make sure you see it lit up at night. For architecture, head to the Grossmünster Cathedral, then onto the Fraumünster Church, both under 10 minutes' walk.

Rooms and Dorms

On the upper floors of our converted tavern, you’ll find hotel-style rooms. You'll get a bit of extra space in a single, double, twin or quad room with an en-suite. The lower floors house our mixed and female-only dorms. When you stay in a dorm, linen and towels are included. No need to take the stairs, we have an elevator! Plus, there are secure lockers for your backpack.

This hostel was a great hostel and was in a perfect location. The facilities were clean and the bed was comfortable with sufficient heating and fans. Bedrooms have a sink and also a little table. The only thing that was a little confusing was the breakfast. There were pictures for what was free and for what cost money but it could have been clearer with what levels were free and what costs money. Maybe that should be in the pictures. Other than that it was a great hostel.

Location was great and is definitely worth the price. Switzerland is expensive anyways, so the hostel was great! Super close to the trains and it didn’t get too loud. The room was particularly warm but opening the window was a quick fix. There is also a fan if needed. Towels are provided for you. The other guests didn’t seem to like to mingle, like this wasn’t a party hostel. But there is a bar downstairs. Overall great place.

Hostel Otter was a great choice for me . It was in a perfect location right in the heart of old town and not to far from a couple train stations . The bar that was connected to it gave it more charm and was an easy way to meet people . The place it self was generally clean and provided the essentials ( linens and towel ). It felt very safe as you use a key card to get in and out of the property , as well as the room you stay in .

Overall this place was lovely. Large and small public lockers to drop your things off early, and two public spaces to hang out. The whole place is over a bar which is fun. My only complaints are the toilet and shower was off the hall way instead of in the room and the public spaces were all hard chairs at tables instead of sofas or more lounge type furniture.

It was located not too far from the altstadt and was basically in the old town and near lots of shops and restaurants. Switzerland as a country is very expensive so it wasn't cheap to stay there, costing about $270 AUD for 2 nights. The facilities were fine except one shower on our floor (4th) that sprayed water everywhere and couldn't be used comfortably. The beds are small and you get one small pillow. It was clean and did the job for two nights. I would stay here again.

This is the worst hostile I have stayed at. Rude staff, no AC, and the hostile is basically a stair well so you are always going up and down to your room. Showers were nice but that’s it. I would never stay here if I were you. I would stay at the Youth Hostel Zurich. It is much better place than this sh*t hole.
