The facilities were good, there’s a (paid) laundry room and a kitchen. The staff is lovely. The rooms were bad though. The windows were so old that they let all the noise and cold air in, even when closed. I woke up cold every night. The curtains didn’t block any light. The beds didn’t have curtains. The rest of the room was okay. The area is a bit sketchy, but nothing too crazy (very loud at night though with a lot of homeless people). I wouldn’t stay again unless they fix the windows.

The hostel itself was okay, and the staff were incredibly kind and helpful. However, the bedding and kitchen cutlery could have been cleaner. Our main issue was the location—we didn't feel safe, especially after witnessing a shooting nearby. There were many homeless people in the area, and we saw people openly using what appeared to be drugs.

Hostelworld says

Orange Village Hostel is centrally located in downtown, near Union Square, Chinatown, California St, Powell St BART station and the MUNI which goes along the Embarcadero to North Beach. Travellers tell us they appreciate the staff because they ?make you feel welcome and at home as soon as you enter the door?. The security at this hostel has also been highly praised because of their 24hr reception and the buzzer on the front door. We particularly like this hostel?s waffle breakfast.
