Property Description

Palmar is the only beachfront hostel in the Bocas del Toro archipelago. Cruise across the bay from the main island on our free boat shuttle, which leaves three times a day from town, and arrive on Isla Bastimentos, home of the Bastimentos National Marine Park. From the dock, walk ten minutes across the island, through the jungle, to find Palmar situated directly on the famous Red Frog Beach. Stop by our reception desk to learn about all of our available tours. Take part in our free daily activities including coastline hikes to the national park, bonfires, hookah, bbq, outings to town, poker, and movie nights. If you're looking for adventure, let us book you a zipline, ATV, cave, or deep boarding tour. If you're looking for relaxation, treat yourself to a morning yoga class, and spend your day reading on one of our luxurious beach loungers. There is something for everyone.

Our restaurant and bar are fantastic, but there are other spots to check out within walking distance. If you're in the mood for something unique, let us book a special outing for you to one of our favorite spots.

The jungle is our home, and protecting it is very important to us. Palmar runs entirely on solar power, and all of our water is rain caught. Experience the magic of showering in fresh, filtered rainwater at natural temperature, free of any chemicals or additives. Take note of our high efficiency systems, minimal impact construction with local hardwoods, and recycling throughout the property.

The dorm cabins are located in the back of the property, tucked away under a canopy of rainforest. Each dorm bed has a semi-orthopedic mattress, high-quality linens, a personal window, fan, reading light, and accompanying locker.

**Please note: The Basic Double Room is actually a Tent**

One of the best hostels I have stayed in. For a true jungle experience right on the beach, you can't get much better. The staff was available and the dorm and facilities were clean. Although there is no kitchen, the food at the restaurant is very reasonably priced, and delicious to boot! I can't recommend this place enough.

Paradise! That’s the first word that comes to mind when thinking of Palmar. It’s definitely the nicest hostel I’ve ever stayed in, and even has a resort vibe for how well they treat you. The variety of this place is awesome too. It’s easy to meet other travelers whom you can party with during the day/night. It is also just as easy to find many quiet spaces to chill, relax, read a book etc. I already miss this place and would’ve stayed longer had they not been booked out!

Had a great experience staying in Palmar! One of my new favorite places. Staff are courteous and friendly, and you can tell the ownership has put a lot of thought and effort into creating an uniquely enjoyable experience. Just keep in mind: it is an Eco Lodge, so you shouldn't go there expecting every luxury. Also, be patient with the restaurant; at times they get a little overwhelmed due to their popularity, but the food is well worth the wait! Just relax and immerse yourself in island time!

Absolutely loved Palmar lodge!!! We stayed 5 days and didn’t want to leave. The lodge was so beautiful and the nature was out of this world. The facilities were great- nice and clean. The staff and volunteers made us feel so welcome and were so friendly, they made it a special experience. We will be recommending to any of our friends who would like to visit the islands! Island Bastimentos was everything we hoped for !

Best. Hostel. Ever!!! It feels likes you’re on a proper resort. The staff is AMAZING and the nightly events are fun and a great way to bring everyone together. I extended my stay here and was so sad to leave this place in the end. Comfy clean dorms, great lockers, showers and toilets are SO nice...honestly no other place worth staying. Just book it.

This is an amazing place. Very comfy beds in the dorm, friendly staff and they have their own slice of the beach. The dorm is in the jungle so it's quiet and cool during the night. I liked the food and it's not too expensive (except for the beer). Great value for your money!

I cannot even put into words how amazing our stay was here! The owners were amazing. They were very humble and down to earth. The staff were a blast! Everyone got to know us by name by the end of our stay and it felt very homey there. We stayed in a tent, which we did not realize we booked at first(anything other than the dorms and the cabins are in tents) but it was so great! They were very spacious and the beds were comfy. It was cool to be located right on the beach and also within the jungle

Stayed for three days over Christmas and unfortunately it rained the majority of the time. However the food was excellent and the facilities were great to keep us entertained in the rain. When it stopped raining it was paradise. dorm beds were really comfy. Only complaint is that the back bathrooms got quite dirty in the rain.

We had a great time at Palmer lodge, the location is beautiful and felt like a resort rather than a hostel. Dorm rooms are small and bed fans aren’t the best but beds were clean and comfortable. Food at the restaurant was okay, western menu and prices with small potions.

I really enjoyed this hostel. But you definitely have to be in the right mindset to go here. You’re pretty much in a wood cabin in the middle of the jungle and the bathroom is outside as well. All around very neat experience 👍
