Property Description

Palmar is the only beachfront hostel in the Bocas del Toro archipelago. Cruise across the bay from the main island on our free boat shuttle, which leaves three times a day from town, and arrive on Isla Bastimentos, home of the Bastimentos National Marine Park. From the dock, walk ten minutes across the island, through the jungle, to find Palmar situated directly on the famous Red Frog Beach. Stop by our reception desk to learn about all of our available tours. Take part in our free daily activities including coastline hikes to the national park, bonfires, hookah, bbq, outings to town, poker, and movie nights. If you're looking for adventure, let us book you a zipline, ATV, cave, or deep boarding tour. If you're looking for relaxation, treat yourself to a morning yoga class, and spend your day reading on one of our luxurious beach loungers. There is something for everyone.

Our restaurant and bar are fantastic, but there are other spots to check out within walking distance. If you're in the mood for something unique, let us book a special outing for you to one of our favorite spots.

The jungle is our home, and protecting it is very important to us. Palmar runs entirely on solar power, and all of our water is rain caught. Experience the magic of showering in fresh, filtered rainwater at natural temperature, free of any chemicals or additives. Take note of our high efficiency systems, minimal impact construction with local hardwoods, and recycling throughout the property.

The dorm cabins are located in the back of the property, tucked away under a canopy of rainforest. Each dorm bed has a semi-orthopedic mattress, high-quality linens, a personal window, fan, reading light, and accompanying locker.

**Please note: The Basic Double Room is actually a Tent**

General Info:

The Palmar Shuttle boat leaves three times daily from the Bocas Marine Tours dock on Isla Colon (main street) at around 10 am, 12 pm and 4 pm. This service is free for guests and limited spaces are given on a first come, first served basis. If you need any help with your luggage, please make sure to arrive on one of these shuttles. If you cannot make it at these times, hire a water taxi from one of the public docks, and ask to be taken to the Palmar Dock on Red Frog Beach ($8-10 per person).

Please note that if you take a private taxi, you will need to show proof of your reservation with us to avoid paying the $5 entrance fee. They will not ask for proof when arriving with our shuttle. From the dock, follow the trail signs for 10 minutes until you reach Palmar.

Reception is open daily from 8 am to 5 pm. Check-in time is at 2:00 pm, but we are happy to store your bags if you arrive early. If you are arriving after 6, please make sure to bring a flashlight! Nothing but good things to say. Amazing people amazing vibes very clean food was amazing. Just be aware there is no common kitchen so u can’t cook for yourself but the food is reasonably priced .. a veggie burger and salad was $8. Definitely a place to check out ! Beach is beautiful and the yoga deck was my personal favourite part.

This place is absolutely amazing! It is without doubt the best place I’ve stayed in Panama. Spent three nights here and wanted more, when I left. The location is wonderful, at the edge of the jungle on a great beach - and they truly know how to make a great atmosphere with daily hostel activities such as bonfires, barbeques, yoga and beachvolley tournaments. Met lots of great people. I highly recommend it and will definitely be back someday 👍

Wow! It felt like being on a very expensive private honeymoon beach resort! Location, buildings, facilities, restaurant, service, all is absolutely amazing. All staff speak amazing English and treat you like a king or queen. Jose on reception is the best host ever. Every detail they have considered on this property. Dorms were really really nice made buildings. We met lovely backpackers there. The people who visit Palmar and lovely people. Had beach bbq and bonfire also.

I loved my stay at Palmar - it’s such a beautiful place where the stunning jungle meets the ocean. It’s a place where you can relax in a hammock with a good book, do yoga, go for a long walk on the beach or have a good time with other travelers in front of the bonfire in the night. The place is clean, the staff has a good energy and it’s also a perfect place to do small trips to Bocas or other islands. :-) Go there, you will not regret it!!

Amazing vibe, and great place to relax, unwind and disconnect. The name belies the true nature of the space; calling it a "lodge" is a disservice. It's kind of like a glamping hostel resort. There are dorm rooms, glamping tents, even better bungalow style rooms called "jungalows" and a sweet jungle vibe that is right on the beach! You have access to one of the nicest beaches in all of the Bocas area, Red Frog Beach, right at your doorstep. The food is great, the social life sweet, two thumbs up!

This place was such a great stay! You have red frog beach to yourself with lounge chairs inc. The vibe was great and the showers were amazing. The coconut shower gel was an added bonus! Drinks were on the cheap side. Good variety of food but unfortunately it all seemed to taste a bit bland. The staff were actually really nice but they were all quite incompetent (wrong room, no info about the hostel, wrong food order/forgot the food order). But it really doesn’t master with a view like like that!

This hostel is a bit remote and hard to get to but I think it is definitely worth it. I stayed for 3 nights. The hostel is right on the beach and has chairs for guests. The restaurant has great staff and food. They use the tab system which makes it easy to pay at the end of your stay. The dorm rooms have lockers and the beds are great. The top bunks have stairs making them so easy to access. The grounds of the hostel are beautiful with flowers and trees. I especially enjoyed the daily yoga class

As a couple traveling in our 30’s, we thoroughly enjoyed our 3 nights at Palmar! We found that the glamping tents were surprisingly comfortable and spacious. The entire vibe of the eco-resort is spot on, and we were fortunate enough to see a sloth climb through the main restaurant at dinner! We would happily stay here again and the trek to Polo Beach is HIGHLY recommended.
