Soak up the sun in Barcelona at Paraiso Travellers Hostel. We're run by four friends and have a friendly, laid-back atmosphere. Take the common room, for example, with its snug seating and TV with DVDs. There’s also a book exchange, so feel free to deposit that paperback you finished last week and pick up a new one. When the sun’s shining, take a free coffee from the machine out onto our sunny terrace and get to know other travellers. We reckon many friendships have been forged over a cappuccino.

You’ll find us in the Sant Antoni neighbourhood in the centre of Barcelona, with many main attractions within walking distance to save you money on taxis. Get your Gaudí fix by visiting his most famous buildings, from the Palau Güell (14 minutes by foot) to the Sagrada Família (45 minutes' walk). You can also hop on the metro – Paral-lel is our closest stop at a 5-minute walk. From here, you can be at Barcelona–El Prat Airport in 38 minutes.

Rooms and Dorms

To sleep, choose between single, double or twin privates – most of which have en-suites with showers – or opt for a mixed dorm. Most rooms also have TVs with channels in plenty of languages so you can wind down with a movie before bed. Your linen and blankets are free, and you'll get a secure locker (just remember your padlock). If you're feeling fancy, you can splash out on a deluxe room for a double bed, flatscreen TV and private balcony.

Extras and activities

Our 24-hour reception means there’s no need to rush back from a great night out, and you can check in at any time. Friendly, multilingual staff are happy to recommend places to eat and places to go – they'll point them out on your free city map. Come dinnertime, pick up some juicy chorizo from La Boqueria food market and Google a recipe using our free Wi-Fi to put it to good use in the communal kitchen.

Security is good because receptionist has to open the entrance door. Clean and good location in walking distance from historic city center. In terms of atmosphere, we only crossed few persons and were not informed of any events organised by the hostel. There is a living room, kitchen and a terrace but we did not interact much with the other guests.

    Very Good

Staff was very great. The wifi was hit or miss. The first night we were there the room next to us was partying at 0345! People were fighting with then to go to bed, doors were slamming, yelling, loud laughter, etc. Lasted until 0500. Needless to say we slept next morning and didn't have much time for sightseeing. Rooms are small and showers are very small. Many things need repair like broken shower handles, windows, etc.

I have been in hostels everywhere in Barcelona. They all have common standards more or less. I have to say that this one as a really bad wifi connection. In addition, I don't understand why on the website they say that the hostel was all complete but once there it was empty.

Our room was clean, however please be aware that the locks are not yale type. We had people just walking into our room, one of which was a maintenance man. Only one decent member of staff, the other 3 had no people skills and didn't seem to be very helpful. WiFi issues throughout, they tried to claim there wasn't a problem when we were told there was when we arrived. The bike store is not fully secure and they don't allow you to keep it in your room.
