Soak up the sun in Barcelona at Paraiso Travellers Hostel. We're run by four friends and have a friendly, laid-back atmosphere. Take the common room, for example, with its snug seating and TV with DVDs. There’s also a book exchange, so feel free to deposit that paperback you finished last week and pick up a new one. When the sun’s shining, take a free coffee from the machine out onto our sunny terrace and get to know other travellers. We reckon many friendships have been forged over a cappuccino.

You’ll find us in the Sant Antoni neighbourhood in the centre of Barcelona, with many main attractions within walking distance to save you money on taxis. Get your Gaudí fix by visiting his most famous buildings, from the Palau Güell (14 minutes by foot) to the Sagrada Família (45 minutes' walk). You can also hop on the metro – Paral-lel is our closest stop at a 5-minute walk. From here, you can be at Barcelona–El Prat Airport in 38 minutes.

Rooms and Dorms

To sleep, choose between single, double or twin privates – most of which have en-suites with showers – or opt for a mixed dorm. Most rooms also have TVs with channels in plenty of languages so you can wind down with a movie before bed. Your linen and blankets are free, and you'll get a secure locker (just remember your padlock). If you're feeling fancy, you can splash out on a deluxe room for a double bed, flatscreen TV and private balcony.

Extras and activities

Our 24-hour reception means there’s no need to rush back from a great night out, and you can check in at any time. Friendly, multilingual staff are happy to recommend places to eat and places to go – they'll point them out on your free city map. Come dinnertime, pick up some juicy chorizo from La Boqueria food market and Google a recipe using our free Wi-Fi to put it to good use in the communal kitchen.

Stayed for 6 nights with my girlfriend. Had a lovely warm reception by the receptionist Sylvia. All the staff at the desk were friendly and offered help when we went in. We were staying in a private double room which had a separate entrance to the hostel with its own separate bathroom and kitchen area which made it feel like we had our own apartment rather than being in a hostel. The room was spacious and very clean and having the balcony was lovely. I work in a hostel and recommend this place!

Our stay was great, security wasn't 100% because anybody could enter our room (7) from the window. Major turn off was in regards to staff. We had to take the plane at 7AM therefore our check-out was quite early around 5AM. I simply wanted to use the kitchen to boil water for a tea and the staff member at the reception refused to unlock the door since I was outside of the usual kitchen hours. Come on, I wasn't about to start a party preparing a Paela, I wanted to boil water.

We stayed in a private double room and we were satisfied with our accommodations. Our room was located in a what seemed like a converted apartment/flat so we had a kitchen and semi-private bathroom plus plenty of space to chill. A little on the noisy side since our room was facing a major street but, meh, Barcelona is a crackin' city so deal with it. Good times. Definitely would stay here again.

While studying abroad, I've had my fair share of hostels and this one was by far the worst one. When we were brought to our room, we were hit instantly with a terrible stench. The whole hall wreaked of body order. The room smelled so bad we asked to change rooms and to be honest the accommodations that they made weren't any better either. We didn't even end up staying at there and went searching for another place to stay at 3 in the room. Not a good experience at all and would not recommend.

If you’re a solo traveller steer clear of this place. I lost my deposit because I left my key in my room when I went to the bathroom and I needed reception to let me back in. They didn’t tell me that cost me my deposit until I checked out this morning at 7am, rushing to catch my morning bus. The whole building smells and nobody talks to anyone, the amenities are very bad and you will struggle to even boil the kettle with how bare bones the place is. Don’t waste your money here.

Worst experience of my life. After confirming that I will be sharing a private room with 3 of my other friends, they put me in a random room w 3 random men. After voicing my concerns then showing them the email of confirmation they immediately got frazzled saying they didn’t know who sent the email. After a night of having no where to sleep they promised to fix the issue in the morning. The next morning a different staff was working and was extremely rude and unhelpful, so I left. Never again.
