Muy buen lugar!! Everything here is so well thought out and it's amazing value for money for what they provide you. Beautiful rooms and common spaces, the best hostel breakfast ever, really friendly staff. Located just a small walk from the centre so it's a nice quiet place to go back to - we ended up staying longer because it was so relaxing and welcoming staying here. Thanks for everything Posada del Abuelito!

I so love this hostel. Impeccably clean, extensive hours for breakfast (7-10:30), super nice rooms (I stayed in the girls dorm) and incredible staff. Josue at reception helped plan a great day visiting the center and gave great ideas for day trips beyond the advertised tours. If you’re looking for a home base for a few days in San Cris this hostel is a no brainer!! :)

Staff were so kind and friendly. They prepared breakfast for us at 3am before we went on a trip. They helped organise all our excursions in Chiapas. The room was very clean and comfortable. Would definitely return.

The common areas, including the kitchen and bathrooms were always clean. The kitchen has a good selection of pots and pans and the hostel kept basic spices and oil available for all to use. The showers had excellent water pressure and hot water was always available. The internet was not great. It was generally pretty slow, except for first thing in the morning before most of the other guests were up. Breakfast was very good with fresh fruit, fresh juice, cereal, bread, jam, coffee and eggs.

    Very Good

    25 Jul 2019
Great location, friendly staff. Good showers, clean facilities etc. Supplied breakfast was nice. However was difficult to book trips/tours. In addition, the advertised laundry service didn’t exist - we were told the machine was broken, despite hearing it running from our room. The communal area was nice but the overall atmosphere was lacking.

Thought about whether to leave a review as everyone was nice, but for this place to be rated 9.5 and have "Best Hostel In South America" etc awards is ridiculous so here's my two cents - it's average at best. The dorm is way too small, everyone falling over each other and nowhere to put bags/stuff. Water temp dodgy the whole time (San Cris is cold) and then the boiler packed up entirely. Not 100% their fault but zero atmosphere while I was there and nothing really happening to encourage it.
