Clean, well maintained, organized. Comfortable place to get some rest and relaxation after my travels through various African countries. The staff was attentive and I was able to use the kitchen to prepare meals that were to my pleasure. The terrace provided a panoramic view of Mt. Kilimanjaro and a wonderful atmosphere to view a sunrise and sunset.

The hostel is a little ways from the town, making it good and bad. It is a 20 minute walk on a muddy path then major road or a bumpy taxi. There are also limited food options. They bar next door did not have food while I was there, but one of the workers took me to a local place a block or so away for rice, beans, and greens for really cheap. The distance makes it quieter, which is appreciated and nice. Everything in the hostel was super clean, modern, and good for chilling out.

We only stayed one night with Rafiki, but it was a very positive experience. I have stayed in hostels in Europe and I find this one very comparable. As a student I am young and very go with the flow. I arrived late after a one day Kilimanjaro hike with four friends. Getting out of the car, checking in, and moving into our room was a very easy and welcoming process. Breakfast was the highlight. A lovely woman made us eggs in the style of our choosing, which came with toast and fruit.

The staff at Rafiki are very friendly and helpful, free breakfast was nice and the rooftop terrace with view over Kilimanjaro is lovely. Next door in Uhuru Museum you can get big portions of decent food and cold beers. The location is up a very bumpy mud path, but only 3000 shillings in a tuk tuk to town. We kept our luggage there during our hike to Kilimanjaro for $3 a day. They booked us airport transfers for $40 per car each way. Rooms in the reception side of the hostel are best.

Lovely hostel. Big. Lots of rooms. The whole thing is kept very clean. the Staff are very kind and helpful for booking tours. They take security very seriously. I left a large amount of cash when I went on my Kilimanjaro hike, and they took inventory of every cent prior to me leaving and upon my return to verify that all was there. The kitchen did not have anything on their menu except samosas and fries. The location is a bit far from the road and from the city center.

Pros: The overall hostel is nice Friendly staff Free breakfast WiFi is good in reception Cons: no hot water for 3 days in 3 different rooms WiFi doesn’t work in common area upstairs Sheets are not clean I could not stay again because of the sheets not being washed after every guest and because the water is not hot but it is a good hostel overall . The price should be cheaper I think $5-$7 would be a more fair price .

Found the staff here to be pretty rude: they were mainly interested in my money, which they asked for as soon as I arrived. Avoid doing laundry, they price or individual item so a small bag of clothes was quoted as $26 (haggled to $10 but still...). Otherwise the bathroom and bedroom was really nice and clean. Pity about the staff and atmosphere!

Be careful when pay – they count the price with exchange rate 2800; but when you need to get change – the rate for your change will be 2000. And be very careful with the laundry – it's handwash, so if your stuff really dirty – it’ll stay dirty. If not - it will become. They use metal rope to dry – the moment when your cloth meets the rust are unforgettable. Anyway the rooms are quite nice and quite clean, they also serve breakfasts.

The location was had its advantages it was away from the busy road and main town, however the generator was running all night and was unfortunately quite loud. The 6 bed dorm was perfectly comfortable, though a little hot, but all facilities were to a good standard. The restaurant was average in price, but great location as its literally right next to the hostel, so no need for a trip to town at night. Breakfast was decent, staff were fantastic, and I met some great people.
