We adored this hostel! A little walk out from Lake Taupo but was super close to Waikato River, the hostel had free airbeds to borrow to float down the river and it was gorgeous! Lots of lovely lounge spaces, big kitchen, movie night and really great staff! I forgot something important at the hostel and the staff kindly posted it on for me, super lovely of them! Clean as a whistle and homey! Hostel dog Jess was really the cherry on top (walking her is a free activity that we 100000x recommend)

Great spot, very clean for an old building. The only thing I would strongly suggest, is to have the door closers fixed so they stop from slamming shut. It's so loud and will continually wake you up.

I had a great stay there for 2 nights. Staff was super friendly and helpful with all the questions I had. They have a hostel Dog “Jesse” who is a great companion and looooovbves belly rubs. Large kitchen and good clean showers and bathrooms. I even met up with some people and we went out on a sail boat together. The whole experience made me feel right at home.

Hostel is at close walking distance to town, has a nice communal area with a lot of cooking space and free coffee and tea all day long. The facilities are ok but two toilets per gender are not that much. Our room was directly next to the entrance door and the community area so it was quite loud at night. Beds are comfy and clean. Plenty parking spaces available as well.

    Very Good

Some off the staff is super nice. Only one toilet for 8 or so rooms is a joke. Yes there are more in the main building, but who wants to walk over there in the middle of the night? Also one of the receptionist girls was pretty rude. Asked for a night extension, told her it’s. Healer on HostelWorld, got offered $1!!! off, and then a credit card fee added. Cmon guys, I know HostelWorld charges a chunk on commission. If I try to book directly with you, be cheaper.

Only thing I liked about this hostel is that the door was locked and you needed the key to get in and the location was ok. Our room smelt of Apple cider despite us keeping the fan on the whole time and window open it didn’t go, I think it’s spilt within the carpet. The general feel felt unclean. The worst part was the cold taps were warm which meant brushing teeth and drinking water was warm. I couldn’t wait to leave and was surprised having given the previous reviews.

Based on the information online, I had booked 3 double bed bunks that would accommodate me, my wife and 3 kids. Me and my family got turned away because they did not allow a family stay in the room that I had booked. I was also informed that the beds I had booked were not double beds?? So embarrassing to be turned away into the rain, very disappointing - I feel like I cannot trust the information I am looking at online. Darryl
