Rancho Grande is a pioneer, and still the best hostel in Chalten. Strategically situated near all trekking paths, it offers your choice of shared bedrooms or private rooms, kitchen facilities, baggage storage, safe box, internet service, laundry, restaurant, and best of all, Rancho Grande (widely known as Rancho) is the best place to meet people from all around the world, make new friends, share some beers and watch sports or movies.
The recipe is simple, take your favorite London or Irish Pub, throw some sports bar in the mix, add a little spice of a club scene and what you get is the main room of Rancho.
Dont forget you can also taste the big and famous Bife Rancho or Milanesa Rancho. Both are ideal to replenish your energy after trekking the surrounding area, or maybe you can take a bite of the sweet pastries offered at the bar counter.
The bi-lingual staff at the hostel will do their best to make your stay at Rancho comfortable and cozy. They will offer you the whole panorama you need to enjoy your trip, information regarding places to visit, things to do and not to do, the ins and outs of the area, and trendy suggestions. They are a mix of reception staff, weather forecasters, traffic cops and gpss, and want to make your trip fun and enjoyable.
The staff can also book excursions and accommodations in El Calafate. They sell bus tickets to almost everywhere in Patagonia, and even book airline flights from their travel offices near the entrance of the town.
Breakfast is included in private rooms.
Rancho sits proudly along the main avenue in Chalten.
As you can see, your choice of where to stay is simple. The only downside is that you must book in advance, specially in high season (September to January). So, pack your stuff and come to Rancho Grande, we are waiting for you with all of our amazing amenities.

Rancho Grande has the cozy ranch atmosphere you’re looking for + great amenities. Everything was very clean, the showers instantly had hot water, it was always warm, and the property was close to all of the trails!

The staff is amazing!! Due to the corona virus we had to stay in quarantaine at Rancho Grande. Nevertheless the staff did every thing possible to make the stay perfekt! They organised transport eventough public transport didn't work anymore, they cooked food and organised activities! So eventough we couldn't go outside (there was a police car infront of the door checking on the tourist) we all had a save, fun and happy time!! Thank you So much for every thing!! You made us feel welcome and home

Awesome base for El Chalten. A utilitarian place which has hiking and climbing in it's DNA. Franco and the reception team are ace - helping with any query on how to get the most out of El Chalten. Good hearty meals and reasonably priced.

I loved Rancho Grande. I stayed for 4 nights, and by the end of my stay, felt very settled in. The hostel is one of the biggest in town, and feels more like a hotel than a hostel! There are keycards for the rooms, so everything is very secure, and the facilities are great - nice hot showers, two kitchens, a 24-hour bar and restaurant, and really helpful staff. The beds were comfortable and plenty of storage was provided. Thanks Rancho Grande - I will be back!

Excelente todo el staff!! Muy amables y te tiran toda la info para saber q hacer y en q momento!! Franco un crack!! El lugar es un restaurante y hostel. Se come abundante y rico (open 24/7). Arriba del restó está la sala de estar; a mi gusto, prefiero más living / sillones para la sociabilidad. Como contra la habitación tenía solo dos enchufes para 4 personas. El desayuno no está incluido.

Wi-Fi was poor with no signal in the bedrooms Bedrooms had no power outlets for the upper bunks. Some staff were friendly but others were not helpful at all. Food was overpriced for what it is, day tour groups are prioritised over hostel guests. Not enough communal space, no utensils, bowls or cups in the kitchen. Female toilets were disgusting - often without toilet roll or hand soap, and doors don’t all close. Showers smelled of sewers and one always flooded. Can buy Calafate bus tickets

Situated right near the start of Fitz Roy and honestly, that is the only positive I can think of. The staff were extremely rude and I have never experienced this in a hostel before. The food prices were extremely overpriced and the restaurant shares the bathrooms/shower area as those staying there. There is only a charging port in the bottom bunk and so I had to try charge my phones inbetween the guy below. This hostel has so much potential but sadly it was such a let down.

What kind of moron thought it was a good idea to build a hostel attached to a restaurant? Surely someone grabbing for cash who doesn't care about the people staying there. I'll save you some time: this is your last resort. Obviously showering in a restaurant's bathroom is weird, but you have absolutely no privacy because the common area is just on top of a noisy place where people are eating and no separation. Your wifi is unusable at lunch and after 7 because 100 other people are using it.

There was no water in the shower The water in the toilets sometimes didn’t flash, and there was a time I could not use any toilet. The wifi is terrible. The bathroom in the hostel is shared with the costumers in the restaurant which makes you fell very uncomfortable when showering and so. And the worst was the owner- I have never experienced such bad and disrespectful treatment from a hostel manager when I came to him with problems that should have been fixed. I will never come here again
