Property Description

************************No 24h reception between 15th March and 1st May*******************************************************
Imagine Tallinn and a bearded Australian. Imagine he creates a hostel with a community, an experience, and an atmosphere bursting with creativity, excitement and fun... Then imagine having a public bar attached to the hostel so you can socialize, drink on the cheap, meet locals as well as other travelers - open till dawn every day.

Having the bar allows us to go out every night drinking, but also to keep the hostel quiet in the evenings offering you a range of different options and a great environment with chill areas if you want to stay in or go to bed early.

We offer clean, bright spacious rooms, with hard to beat security and the real difference, attentive and caring staff who actually take an interest in all parts of your stay in Tallinn. We will make sure to show you cool underground places unseen on the common traveller's route and help you save money and have an authentic experience by recommending local places and tours, and using the specially negotiated deals for you.

We also have a fully equipped kitchen for you to use, apart from the times when we are cooking up hostel dinners, breakfast of ham and eggs or whatever else we think the hostel needs to prepare for a good night out or to deal with a hangover!

Please note:

Secure PARKING in our courtyard is available but due to the limited number of places please email us in advance. (9 euros per day)
Given that we have our own bar, we only accept booking of individuals AGED OVER 18.
GROUPS bigger then 10 and Stag parties are strongly advised to contact us directly about house rules and conditions.

Please note:
No American Express card accepted nor on the spot, not for bookings. View House Rules

Overview

At Red Emperor Bar&Hostel, we're all about the fun activities! Join in with karaoke night quizzes, open mic nights and watch live music – and, of course, get involved in happy hour. Because our pub's next door, the common room is quieter in the evenings, so you can choose to just chill and chat or use the free Wi-Fi. We're travellers too here so we know a friendly bar (that's open until late) is a must – as are events like hostel dinners, beer tastings and beer pong tournaments!

Location

We're in the Old Town district, filled with medieval architecture, gothic spires and cobbled streets. Town Hall Square is 7 minutes away by foot. There's also (another) bar, a supermarket, a restaurant, an ATM and even a pharmacy just a few minutes' walk away. From Tallinn Airport, take bus 121 for 9 minutes to Hobujaama and then walk for 6 minutes. Arriving at Tallinn bus station? Walk to us in 26 minutes, or take tram line 2 from Bussijaam for 9 minutes to Mere puiestee, and we're 2 minutes away.

Rooms and Dorms

If you're the sociable type, grab a bunk with lockers and fresh sheets in our mixed dorms – these have shared bathrooms. Prefer a bit more personal space? We've got private rooms in a range of sizes, some with views of the Old Town walls and en-suites. Our rain showers are always hot – hire towels from us before you jump in.

Extras and activities

Join us on trips to the underground side of Tallinn, like the fascinating Soviet prison and the old naval base in Paldiski. We'll also take you around some of our favourite bars. Exploring on your own? Pick up a free map and hire a bike or skateboard! When you get back, make the most of our kitchen or games room for pool and foosball.

Friendly staff and very clean toilets. The 8 shared bedroom was a bit too hectic, but once I changed to the 4 shared bedroom my stay was practically perfect. Totally recommend for the value.

    Fabulous

This hostel was great in regards to cleanliness, location, security and price. But it was lacking, although facilities were ok, having one plug socket to a room of 6 people and no bunk lights made things difficult. Not to mention the noise coming from the bar at 5:30am. The staff were smiley and helpful but there wasn’t much following that in the way of inclusion or conversation. It took away from the atmosphere. I’m sure on a better day this place is worth a higher score, but sadly not from me.

    Very Good

Good hostel with social activities each evening. I had a bit of a problem with my dorm (the people in my room) and asked for a private room which they catered for. I had to pay in full for both rooms though regardless, which I thought could’ve been handled better in good faith. Mixed experiences with staff. Some were lovely and others quite cold. Has a bar on site. Great location for exploring Tallinn.

    Very Good

Rooms were nice as were the staff but the rules for the bar patrons to remain quiet during the night were not enforced whatsoever. It got so loud that both nights I was woken up to drunken tourists screaming outside the window and the police had to come and tell them to be quiet because the bar staff did nothing about them. If you're looking for a good night's rest, this isn't your spot.

    Very Good

Although the staff was very nice, I must comment on the hostel itself... beds were awful, the springs were literally going through my body and I could barely sleep. One of the nights the music from the pub was so loud that none of us in the room could sleep, even when we were using earplugs. When we went to complaint to a member of the staff but she literally said there was nothing she could do... music kept playing till over 3 in the morning. Just to point out that the music was Heavy metal!!!

Red Emperor Bar&Hostel says

I reckon what guests really appreciate about our hostel is that we offer a community experience for both solo travellers and small groups. Our international family of staff has but one goal, to constantly improve or features and facilities for our guests! That being said, our biggest assets to help accomplish this has got to be our family of staff and our unbeatable location here in the beautiful Old Town of Tallinn . Having traveled ourselves, stayed and worked in plenty of hostels - we made sure there would be no queues for the showers, the mattresses are comfy, the sheets are pretty and you have everything you need from guests computers to cheese graters. We have also moved the party out of our common room and opened Red Emperor Bar next door - so you can meet both locals and travelers and it can be your choice to stay up late or have a night in.
The staff host daily activities such as hostel dinners, bowling nights, beer tastings and even beer pong tournaments to make meeting other travelers even easier! Ha, and that is just in our hostel. We then have one of the TOP public bars in Tallinn next door which hosts karaoke nights, pub quizzes, open mic nights and live bands (international and local) on most weekends!
We have also built up a network with all the tours and activities here so you don´t need the hassle of booking things, you are on holiday in the end! These include Day trips to Lahemaa National Park, the creepy old soviet prison and the old naval base in Paldiski and daily pub crawls to name a few. Or we can give you a map, a bike or skateboard and take you to all the places that aren´t on the tourist maps!
Come stay with us and we promise you won´t regret it Luke, Manager
