Red Rock was a lovely place, just a pity my flight connections did not work out as planned, leaving me with limited time in Lalibela. Regardless of my rushed visit, Red Rock was just absolutely on it! Helping me with airport transfers and a guide to see the rock-hewn churches. Even making a tasty sandwich late at night! My room also had a fantastic view over town, thank you Red Rock! Hope to visit soon again.

Great location, easy walk to the churches and stunning views over the valley. Rooms were good value, hot water. Food freshly prepared. Would thoroughly recommend as an excellent budget stay option. Also recommend Tadesse who was our guide - very knowledgeable and extremely kind to us.

Red Rock hotel is in between a low-budget backpacking hostel and a luxury hotel, on an aging building. The city struggles with water supply. On one side you don't have water anytime in the bathroom (you keep a small stock on a bucket), but on another side you just need to ask and the staff turn on the pump for you to take a hot shower. The general feeling would be just so, but the presence of the manager Shima changes everything, as he is always willing to help and attentive to our needs.

First, let me say the staff are great here—very nice and helpful, got me to a clinic and even waited for my blood test with me as I had a bad virus. But that night I was up all night with nasty symptoms of virus and guess what—they turn water off at night!!! So I couldn’t wash my hands or flush my toilet all night. It was disgusting. This continued every night and is reason enough for me to not recommend it.

Currently, there is no running water for toilets, no water for shower, no water for sink. I accept that this situation may not be the hotel's fault as it may be due to construction in the area, but one hour of running water per day (when it takes 1 hour to heat the water tank) is unacceptable. Until there is water, I do not recommend staying at this hotel. The good things: Helpful staff, Beautiful view from some rooms, Affordable price for the area, Good tours on offer.
