Property Description

RedDoorz Hostel @ Kotagede is a small boutique hostel built by travelers for travelers. Our BHUMI philosophy is simple: travel with authenticity, live with purpose. In the heart of Yogyakarta’s most well-preserved heritage neighborhood Kotagede, we welcome you to a true adventure.

An adventure should still feel like home. Our permaculture garden provides our supply of tea and tisane from freshly harvested flowers picked by us — or even by our guests. A few steps away from the garden, our workshop space doubles as both a training gym (battle rope, gymnastic rings, and tires) and a place for creatives to share their art. We’ve hosted Yogyakarta’s creative circle on topics like kombucha, shibori, and even food composting —
we’re lucky enough to have these creatives trust us with our space, and we hope you’ll be lucky enough to be in town when they do drop by. Stepping out of our humble home, you can explore Kotagede’s historical past (by foot or on wheels) through the one thing we can never go wrong with food. Yogyakarta is home to some of Indonesia’s classics like kipo rice cake, jamu and satay. We’ve got you covered with a map of where to eat because knowing our food means knowing us better. Step into the bustling Pasar Kotagede market or make your way across Malioboro Street to hear Yogayakarta come alive. We’ve never heard it described as a sleepy town, and we can’t agree more. And when you’re ready, the adventure continues outside these busy streets: hiking at
Mount Merbabu, kayaking in River Opak, paragliding in Parangtritis, surfing at Gunung Kidul, and experiencing what can only be among the world’s best sunrises at Borobudur. Let us take care of the arrangements because we want you to save your energy for the adventure.

We’ve been asked which of these is the best adventure, and while we can’t pick a favorite — we can add another one that is just as meaningful. We built BHUMI with the community in mind and today we are proud to support two advocacies: education and animal protection. Our home store includes local products whose proceeds benefit these two initiatives. And it doesn’t end there. For those that want to join us on our support for education, our guests have come along to our sessions with students at the local high school. Spend an afternoon sharing your experience with students who are eager to see the world through your eyes and practice their English. It comes as no surprise when guests say that this has become one of their most memorable experiences to date. And for those who are interested in animal protection, you need not look further as our furry family were all rescued and brought home to BHUMI in partnership with Animal Friends Yogyakarta.

The end of your day back at home is met with a hot shower and a rest at our comfortable beds, along with speedy and reliable WIFI. Nights back at our place are some of best moments with our guests. Wherever you’ve been, whatever you’ve eaten, and whoever you’ve met — we want to hear your stories at the dining table or around the fire pit. Our BHUMI family is made up of all the adventures that our guests have shared with us, and we can’t wait to hear yours. We are proud of Yogyakarta and our neighborhood Kotagede, and we’re calling on all of you — the digital nomad, the fitness buff, the travel blogger, and foodie at heart — to come and be part of our growing #bhumifamily!

I enjoyed my stay at Bhumi Hostel. The beds are comfy, there is a permaculture garden in the front, and there is free vegetarian breakfast, which is well-prepared. There is cool neighborhood restaurant called Kedai Den Wir which is walking distance and tucked around the corner. Anywhere you want to go in downtown is easy to get to by Grab, but note that Yogyakarta is a large city with many neighborhoods so depending on where you want to go, it might take you a while.

Besides this place being a little far from Malioboro City center (not a problem- you could get a go jek to City center for around 15,000 rupiah and takes around 15 mins), it's an amazing hostel. Staff is super friendly, beds are comfortable, rooms are clean, cool common area outside. I'm addition they have a gym, am organic garden and a coffee shop right outside the hostel! Coffee is really cheap... Toilets and showers are also clean and comfortable. Very recommended! Would stay there again.

The staffs were amazing. I felt at home as soon as I arrived. They were really welcoming and the hosts and long term guests are more like old friends and family. If I go back to Jogja, I'd definitely go back to Bhumi hostel. I regretted staying only for a night.

Absolutely enjoyed my stay here, the staff were very kind and helpful, the room was clean and nice. The locker could be more sturdy and secure tho' , but it wasn't a deal breaker. The atmosphere was very relaxed and homey with its garden, and at night it felt peaceful. I wish more information was spread regarding the activities that the hostel had (Sunday work out, etc). Would definitely recommend and come back :)

Friendly and helpful staff, quiet atmosphere in the suburbs of Yogyakarta. A Grab into the centre is fairly cheap but can take anywhere from 10-30 minutes depending on traffic. Toilet slippers would be a good idea given the no shoes policy. I only managed to have a hot shower once. Lunch options were delicious and very authentic.

We had a long and great stay at bhumi which we prolonged several times. A nice place in the Kotagede area of Yogya. The host helped us with laundry and scooter rent. The atmosphere was great, and the hostel had potential to be very social, but we stayed there alone. Only concern was that the place isn't really closed off. Doors aren't locked at night, and they run a coffee delivery shop until 22. Lots of noise and people coming and going. Overall really great, would definitely recommend!

I enjoyed staying at this hostel a lot, nice homey feeling. Although there were not many internal backpackers around this time of year.

Bhumi is a beautiful hostel and I wish I could’ve stayed longer. The beds are super comfortable, A/C and WiFi work great, and a super cheap laundry service is available. The reason I booked the hostel was for the amazing vegetarian breakfast advertised, but due to my tours/travel plans I didn’t get to experience. One negative is there doesn’t seem to be much security. The rooms aren’t locked, and the doors/gate to the hostel aren’t locked at night either. We’re given lockers though.

Nice place and friendly hosts, breakfast included. Has an organic garden which has organic tea. A bit far from the city, with the bad traffic takes about 30 mins to get to maliboro street. Should try the soto from the street foods nearby, very delicious. They have a friendly dog, beema, very protective of the guests staying in. Overall nice
