Overview

Whether you're travelling solo or with friends, you'll feel right at home with us at Rest Up London. We've been welcoming travellers to our award-winning hostel in central London for more than 100 years, and we know the importance of feeling at home away from home. Kick back in spacious communal areas or grab something to eat – we've got everything from traditional English fry-ups to Italian-style pizza and pasta.

Location

You'll be based in quirky Elephant & Castle and only a quick walk to the nearest underground station – from there, it's a few stops to famous sights like the Tower of London and the London Eye. Soho's bohemian bars, Chinatown's buzzing restaurants and Covent Garden market are all a short stroll from Piccadilly Circus, which is five stops away on the Bakerloo line. Up for a night out but don’t feel like going far? The iconic Ministry of Sound nightclub is 12 minutes' walk.

Rooms and Dorms

Prefer to have your own private bathroom? Some of our rooms come with en-suites at no extra charge. Wi-Fi and bedding are included in all of our rooms, including mixed and female-only dorms. Each bed has a reading light: perfect for planning your itinerary with our free city maps. Our private rooms are ideal for couples, and make sure to book one of our family rooms if you’re travelling with under-18s. We've got towels and hairdryers for hire, which leaves more space in your backpack for city souvenirs. And don't worry if your bag weighs more than you do – there's also an elevator.

Extras and activities

You'll find all the essentials on-site: an ATM, secure lockers for stowing your bags, 24-hour security and welcoming multilingual staff at the front desk – also open all day and night. If you're staying in, stop by one of the vending machines before swapping stories with fellow travellers in our café or terrace, snuggle up in the TV room on the comfy bean bags, or get involved in some (light) competition over foosball and pool.

The sheets in my bed were already used when I arrived, so I informed the front desk and they said they would have the sheets replaced. When I returned that night, someone was sleeping in my bed so I had to find another bed. Other than this, I enjoyed my stay at the hostel, the facilities were clean, and the staff was helpful.

the staff is insanely friendly and the aesthetic is really nice! but... my key card stopped working 2 times in 1 day, the wifi is TERRIBLE, a legitimate school of children showed up and were loud all throughout the night and morning. sucks big time that breakfast isn’t included and that there isn’t a kitchen to store ur food in.

The hostel is ok for just a night stay, but there was a lot of mistakes made by the reception when attributing bunk beds which led to the whole dorm being woken up at 4am because the reception gave the same bed to two different people. The showers and toilets were ok, a little bit dirty there was hair in the shower and some food in the sink that had been there for a long time.

The few guys I interacted with at reception were nice -- my first two nights they were overbooked, and so one of them upgraded me to a private room. (This ended up being the best possible thing for me at this place as the entire 4 days I was there, the hostel and all the public spaces were over-run by some sort of school group; kids between 13-15.) Wifi through is pretty awful -- especially when you leave the main floor.

No soap in bathroom for 3 days. Wouldn't let me check in 15 minutes early then had to wait 30 minutes past for the large group to finish checking in (who were allowed to check-in early). WiFi very very bad in room. On two mornings a group of children woke me at 7 am SCREAMING and running through the halls (this continued for an hour, both mornings). Tried to buy a sandwich at front desk one evening, but after 15 minutes waiting finally gave up. Beds very uncomfortable. Good location though.

I paid more at this hostel than any other in London and it was the worst hostel I have ever stayed at. The staff was friendly and helpful. It felt unsafe, dull, dark, and everything had an extra charge- which I was happy to pay but the quality for everything was terrible. I will never stay at this hostel again, even if we were offered it for free to stay, I would rather pay the SAME and in some nights CHEAPER to stay at a nicer hostel that was more secure and better environment.

The hostel needs to be renovated, windows were broken and we can feel the wind in our bedroom. Toilets and showers were dirty. On our floor, toilets were broken and it was floading. The toilets pipes were full and there were leaking. When we informed the staff, they reacted by telling us to use other floor.

The lift was broken everyone staying there was nice it’s far enough walk from the city and far away from the touristy things u have to get an underground which is about 10 minutes walk. The stairs are so hard to climb not a lot of space to relax the private rooms are literally a bed shower toilet no table no space at all very cramped staff are very dismissive

Very very poor staff member !! Been in for 5 days and extended my stay for 2 more days! I went to the reception to do my checking then one of the receptionist guy ( Young Spanish guy) told me straight without asking any question that my maximum stay is only for 14 days and my next booking will be canceled If I make one !! I never told this guy that I was planning to stay 14 day, I Was in just for 5 days. When I told him that He was wrong he said because of the conversation I’m now banned !! Thi
