Property Description

Loft opened in 2013 and already made a huge impression. This highly rated hostel was voted The Best HI-Hostel in the world in the year of 2014 and then the Best Hostel in Iceland at the 2015 Hoscars.

Here at Reykjavík - Loft HI Hostel, we combine Scandi-chic and eco-credentials with a warm Icelandic welcome. Join us on the rooftop terrace for beers in summer and Northern Lights in winter. And while you're here, take part in our regular free events. We've got everything from karaoke and pub crawls to yoga and drag shows, with a spot of arts and crafts in the middle. Making use of our fully equipped kitchen is a smart way to save your cash for seeing all the island's best sights, too.

Location
Arriving from the airport's super simple: buses are scheduled to match flight arrival times, so jump on and tell the driver where you want to go. Our hostel sits on the main shopping street so souvenirs or an inviting coffee are only a few steps away. Hallgrímskirkja (Reykjavík Cathedral) is a 5-minute walk, as is the dramatic Harpa concert hall. If you've come to Iceland for the hot springs, buy a bus transfer when you book your entrance ticket and they'll pick you up from hostel reception.

Rooms and Dorms
Beds and bunks in our dorms and private rooms alike come with free linen. Both room types also have en-suite bathrooms and lockers (bring your own lock or buy one from us at reception). While we're talking about security, we offer female-only dorms, and access throughout the hostel is by keycard.

Extras and activities
Chilly out? Snuggle up in our cosy common room over a board game with your mates or hunker down with a book from our exchange. If you're after something more lively, check out our on-site bar. Happy hour's from 4pm to 8pm daily, and we don't think you'll find a more globally diverse place to drink beer in all of Reykjavík. The bar and café have free Wi-Fi (as does the whole hostel), so you can update your blog or video chat with friends at home over a few warming lattes.

The hostel team is happy to give local advice on services and attractions and arrange your tours for free, including the Golden Circle, the Blue Lagoon, horseback riding, whale watching and all kinds of adventure tours. We also arrange car rentals with free pick up and all local transport. Great specials and package deals available. We look forward to welcoming you. View House Rules

Great location, good vibes! The common area was awesome and the breakfast amazing. Also all the staff were excellent! Without doubt the nicest hostel I’ve stayed in :)

The kitchen, bathrooms and rooms were very clean, and I found it to be a safe place (there is a door to the floor that requires a card, before you reach your dorm room). After midnight the main entrance is closed but there is a person on duty for latecomers. Breakfast was a bit pricy for what was offered, but it’s a buffet, and at the same time it was cheaper than the options available in cafés nearby. Location was perfect, super central and close to pick up points for the tours.

This is a really lovely hostel. It is clean, not rowdy, yet friendly. The staff are very helpful in terms of what to do in the city and booking tours. The loft (upstairs living room, dining room and bar) is really comfortable, well decorated and has a nice atmosphere. The location is perfect right in the city centre yet not noisy. I would definitely stay again.

Overall a good hostel, however it lacks atmosphere and key kitchen items. Would still recommend this place as it has a great location and rooms.

Clean, cozy, and a good location. The only issue I had was no large locker's for storing backpacks or luggage in the rooms, only a small lockbox type storage under each bed. Luckily everyone in the room was friendly and no shadiness went on. It can get a little loud outside the windows from the nightlife spilling into the streets. If I could recommend something that all hostels should do, is to add a curtain to each bed so that in the evening, you can sleep easier even with lights on.

Location is good, staff good, only problem hotel is located on main road and all night until 5am bars and disco outside thudding bass music and drunk revellers making noise. Did not sleep for 3 days. No soundproofing in rooms. Otherwise place is very nice.

Wouldn’t stay here again. Waaaaayyyyy overpriced for what you get. I understand Iceland is expensive in general... but, since staying here, we’ve stayed at a few hotels as we traveled along the ring road. All of them cheaper, nicer facilities, better amenities and all nice locations. Had to stand outside in the middle of the night and wait for someone to come out because there was nobody answering the call system. I could go on, but I’m out of characters. There are better options than here.
