Great little surfer hostel in the middle of a small village in Wai'ao that backs up onto the beach. Candy and the staff were incredibly friendly and helpful.

We had an amazing weekend @Rising Sun Surf Inn. The hostel is super clean, food is delicious and you can rent surfboards with all the stuff you need for fair prices. The crew is awesome and I’ll come back for sure! It’s one of be best hostels I’ve ever stayed in!

I was very happy with my stay at the Rising Sun Surf Hostel. The location is perfect, 2 minutes walk from the railway station located directly at the beach. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful with any kind of inquires. The Rooms are very simple, nicely decorated and very clean. There is a small balcony with view on the ocean for everyone to use. Didn't take the surf classes this time but definitely looking forward to come back and take some classes in this perfect environment.

If you want to surf and live by the beach affordably this is worth leaving Taipei for. The owner Candy and the rest of the staff are really chill. Before coming I saw reviews that there's not much food here but there's a nice pizza place across the street and the nearby town isn't that far by train as long as you catch the train that comes ever 20 minutes. Lots of bugs as you would expect outside of the city. Too bad I heard they're not renewing their lease after July :( but check anyway!

This hostel is pretty basic in regards to its facilities, but it is located right on the beach. The staff were very friendly and helpful taking us out to dinner with them the first night. There isn't too much located in the area in regards to food/supermarkets etc. so be prepared to head to the next town for supplies/eating out. The vibe of the area is nice and relaxed and I imagine it is very busy during summer. Tortilla the dog was the star of the hostel!

    Very Good

Pros: Beach is great, across from train station. I heard surfing lessons and equipment is great and well-priced. Comfy common room with cards/games. Cons: No ATM or 7-11 anywhere close. Lack of food, need to rely on hostel's mediocre western food or other relatively expensive touristy food unless you want fried rice or bring your own stuff. Certain rooms lack windows and get very muggy. Elderly neighbors, so must be very quiet after dark (or certain staff will get cranky).
