What a wonderful woman running the Hostel! The kitchen, outdoor area, showers, bathroom, sink, surf-board rack, were all clean and worked great! Nice welcoming atmosphere and location. It's no 5 star hotel, but it's definitely worth 12 dollars so it gets a 5 star from me!

Staff is friendly and helpful. Area far enough of night life for great sleep but walking distance to the beach & party all night if that’s what you want. bunk beds are bolted to the wall which you can’t feel or hear the other person move. You get free coffee which in other hostel they charge you 1,000 colones $ 1.66 +or- . Some of us had free food too because staff usually cook a lot and love to share. Andrés offered a cookout. It was amazing and we all pitched in 2,0000C I recommend it 100%.

Good value, nice and chill small hostel yet still close to the beach and active main strip. Great staff. Comfy bed but could do with personal fans for each with the heat. Would stay again for sure

Had a 4 bed room, woulda have been nice to have access to a plug to charge the phone on the top bed but other than that, staff was very helpful and it is well located!

The hostel looked more run down than the photos. When I arrived within check in hours there was no one there. No bell on locked gate or sign/instructions. Had to yell to get the attention of a guest in the backyard who said the owner was gone and that he was not allowed to let anyone in.... This made me feel uncomfortable and unwelcome. I walked down the street and for the same price found a better hostel with beautiful gardens and a pool. Would not recommend staying at Riva.

after my group was checked in I had to ask where my room was because he only showed us our tent (we had a tent and a bed in the dorm). The man working told me two older men were staying in there as well and I might want to stay in the tent with the toher two in my group. When we started to go find some food, we asked the guy working the desk gave us a recommendation for dinner that was supposedly cheap and good which it was neither. The facilities were mediocre and no mosquito net was provided.

For $50 you would expect a plush pillow, comfortable place to lay down, and a secure space. None of these were even an option for our stay. Again, this is a “hostel”, for a hefty fee, and without your belongings securely locked. Location was set back from the busy strip, which had its benefits, none the less the town is busy into the early morning with music to match. The town itself is very touristic, and reminded me of Miami Beach. Regardless, staff was friendly. A place to crash in a pinch!

Buyer-B-Ware - Rivas Hostel is not really a hostel it is a campground! When we arrived we were expecting a room with two beds and at least a ceiling fan! What we got was an outside tent with a couple of cots on the ground. There was no room to house our luggage inside the tent! When I told the attendant that we were not comfortable with the facilities he insisted that we must pay for the entire stay per our reservation. We stayed 1 night and left loosing our $68 deposit. Disappointed!!
