Property Description

Please note that check-in takes place at the following address: Via Paolina, 20, at my cafe.

Established in 1990, Rose Santa Maria has come to be one of the most popular accommodations in Rome and a well-known place to stay for young travelers. Since its opening it has been recommended in all the main guide books.

The structure is located in Rione Monti, a lively neighborhood close to the Colosseum and the Roman Forum. Just down the hill you will find the charming cobble-stone streets, Monti proper, complete with fountain for nighttime gatherings. A trendy area, it boasts artisan and vintage shops, a plethora of dining options and cafes, and bustling crowds comprised of residents, artists, tourists, and other colorful folk.

Rose Santa Maria is a calm, clean, budget-friendly place to crash in the heart of Rome. It is located on the fourth floor of a 19th-century close to Via Cavour, one of Rome’s main roads. Despite being a small property, with no common room and no kitchen, our guests appreciate the cozy, homey atmosphere.

Several transport options, such as metro, buses, trams, taxi stands, and tour buses, are at your fingertips. Rose Santa Maria is easily accessible from Termini central train station, just a few minutes' walk from the structure. Termini hosts bus and train transport to and from Rome's airports.

We felt very safe and comfortable at this hostel which can be difficult to find. Check-in was a little confusing but Franco and responsive and happy to help! He was incredibly sweet and we felt 100% taken care of during our stay. The hostel was also in a great location. Close to everything, but not swamped with tourists. I will absolutely be back next time I’m in Rome! I recommend wholeheartedly.

There was AC in our room (female dorm) which was such a relief! Clean, simple bedroom and he gave me a towel to use as well which was a great bonus. Franco is incredibly nice! Just make sure you message him exactly when you’ll be there or you will have to wait because he isn’t always at his shop.

Good value for price! Very close to the central station, lots of trains & buses. We did have to wait a bit to be checked in since the cafe was closed, so maybe message the host ahead of time when you’ll be arriving. Also the “AC” was just a fan in the room so it got pretty warm. But the security was good, the bathroom was small but modern & nice, & it was a great location. Happy with our stay.

Franco is the man! Very nice and polite. We met him outside his cafe. He made us feel welcome in Rome. You should definitely stay here if you want to save your money for exploring Rome. Given how much there is to see in Rome, all you'll need is a bed to sleep. There was no a/c if that's a dealbreaker for you. I had a private room, which was a bonus. I highly recommend staying here if you don't want to stay in a hotel with amenities you may not need.

    Very Good

Once you get past the weird check in, it’s a great location and is comfy enough. Fridge was a bonus, but the fan wasn’t the best at cooling the room. We stayed for four nights and got the value we expected with the price.

I would not stay here again. We were here for one night only and I could not get any sleep at all because there was no air conditioning, which I did not notice when I booked this place. The worst part was the small pile of sand in the bathroom by the toilet, probably coming from the digging of the ant that was there. I also saw a silverfish insect (!) in the room... The owner seems very nice and the location is great, very close to Termini station. The room was otherwise clean.

Location was safe but had no AC, was stifling hot, and there was no airflow because the window only opens a crack and there was no way to cool the room in the evening. With 4 people using 1 bathroom (which also had no window and filthy ventilation system), it should have been cleaned every day. The only merits were the location, free towels, lockers with locks, and WiFi. The 'staff' was a (very polite) man but he asked to be paid in cash because the 'credit card system is broken.'

Horrible reception process, mostly because there is no reception. The stairway up to the room had piles of trash, boxes, and old rotting croissants. The room was FINE, but not great. The best parts were the portable AC unit and wifi, but other than that it was a terrible place. The shower never got even remotely warm. He told us we had to pay in cash last minute so I had to roam around to find an ATM on my own time. Would not recommend to anyone. Had much higher reviews when I booked than now.
