Property Description

“Running Bare” is about discovery and adventure, leaving the old behind to find something new and exciting. At our hostel you will have an authentic experience and see a slice of Japan.

We have daily events to help you cross the culture barrier, and see or do something that you might not be able. So, come join us on our takoyaki Tuesdays or for a nice relaxing dip in the local onsen. You can check out our events calendar for more information.

Our capsules are designed and made by two highly skilled Japanese carpenters who used to build traditional wooden house. Our goal was to bring back and re purpose a fading craft, to create a peaceful space for you to get away from it all. Each capsule has a universal charging outlet and luggage space. We hope you enjoy your private capsule and take a moment to notice how all the pieces of wood fit together like a puzzle and do not require nails. View House Rules

Great place with a great location, right next to the train and main street in Fuji city. The hostel was new, clean and well kept. The owner was incredibly helpful, he helped us plan what places would be best to go to and at what times, he also helped us locate bikes to ride around the city and gave us advice on where to find the local Japanese food we were interested in trying. The facilities were good, but the service from the owner was great. Would definitely recommend.

This hostel is way more than I expected. The location is super convenient to public transportation and the city is like a hidden gem at the southern side of mt Fuji. Not the usual spot many people go to so you get to explore a bunch of areas with now crowds. Also the best place for finding local food spots that I found during my time in Japan. The room is so comfortable and pretty spacious for a capsule room. The owner is also amazing and will give so many great suggestions. I will be back!

Great location if you're planning on hiking Fuji-san from the Fujinomiya trail (it's the shortest timewise from the 5th station). When I found out that the buses weren't running up to the 5th station (because the climbing season was officially over) he helped me connect with two other backpackers in the same situation. We ended up renting a car and driving up ourselves for cheaper than the bus would have cost, in an overall heroic victory

Booked this hostel last minute and this place was nothing short of amazing. Right across from Fuji station, access to places was very convenient. The staff was helpful and ensured that we settle in comfortably even if it was late at night (and a typhoon was coming). Sadly, we only stayed for a night but wish we could have stayed longer to explore more.

I intended to stay in running bare for one night but I liked it so much I ended up staying 3. The staff is extremely friendly and creates a great scene to meet people and make friends. Perfect for solo travelers. It’s also super easy to get around in the Fuji area, with a 1 minute walk to the train station. Special thanks to David who made sure everybody had a good time.

Really great here. Its nice to have a closing door on your capsule rather than just a curtain like most places in Japan. The beds are much softer than the rest of Japan too - a big plus for those of us used to western beds. Best of all were the staff. The owner (I think?) Vivek was extremely helpful and sat down to show us a map of the best tourist sights and restaurants. He tailored this advice for our length of stay. We took all of his recommendations and had a blast. Well done!

Nice place to stay when visiting Fuji town, the hostel is just in front of the local station which makes it much easier. Fuji town is not very touristy but there are still things to see, the good thing is you will definitely feel inside Japan, not many here(except the owner of the hostel) speak English. It's also the perfect spot if you don't want to climb Mt Fuji but just want a view. Thanks a lot for all your tips for going around.
