Hostelworld says

Safestay Gothic is in Ciutat Vella district, very near Museu Picasso, Jaume I metro stop and Barcelona Cathedral, and about 15 minutes' walk to the beach, the aquarium and the Maremàgnum. We like their 'cubicle' style of bunk beds which create a little personal space in large dorm rooms, with privacy curtains, reading lights and power sockets. Many of our guests say they also appreciate the breakfast and the hostel's rooftop terrace.

Barcelona is a city of charming streets, busy with people and full of life. The old town, comprising the Gothic quarter, the Rivera and Raval districts, is famed for its historical monuments, narrow streets and bohemian atmosphere. The city also has the biggest selection of modernist architecture; most of these buildings are in the Eixample district which constitutes a unique model of European urban planning.

Barcelona is the only European capital with over four kilometres of beaches where you can enjoy the most modern amenities and these beaches are not far from Barcelona's historical landmarks, and they have opened up our modern and cosmopolitan city to the sea.

The Safestay Gothic is one of the Safestay Hostels all around Europe.

Persons under the age of 18 are only allowed to stay in private rooms or dormitory rooms that are booked for use of one family or group of persons, and can't share dormitory rooms with other guests. People under 18 years of age must travel with their parents or legal tutor.

Please note Safestay Barcelona Gothic is a cashless hostel. View House Rules

Absolutely amazing location in the heart of Gothic Quarter with a metro stop a minute's walk from the hostel. There is also supermarket round the corner. People in there were very friendly and staff very accommodating (especially when I kept getting locked out of my room!). One annoying thing was that the main room lights are on a very long timer so if they get switched on by mistake in the middle of the night they might be on for 10-15mins or so.

Great location in El Born, with cute alleys full of stores with handmade things and art. What was great was that the lockers are in the hallway, so no one wakes you up in the dorms by going through their bags!!

General impression good, with a great location. However, do not expect to use the kitchen as there is no stove or anything. When we stayed it was quite cheap which makes sense for what we got. Note: plastic mattress

Would not recommend staying here, definitely not worth the pricey stay. The beds are very old and if you're in the top bunk your outlet is next to inaccessible (about a meter above the bed). There was a bunch of trash left in the room for days. The showers were gross with clumps of hair everywhere and no real area to hang clothes/towels. Had a blood stained towel and the person at reception told me it wasn't stained, "it had just been cleaned" and didn't even apologize when I showed the stain.

Dead atmosphere, and there was no hot water from the showers for the first few days. Dorm room was pretty bad - super noisy from the street outside, bedding is the bare minimum, and the socket is so far from the bed you have to dangle your charger all the way down and balance your phone right on the edge of the bed frame. And you have to buy a padlock to use their old school lockers in the hallway - no storage in the dorms. Location is great and it's cleaned regularly, so that's good.

This was a very average stay for us. The cleanliness was poor - we had to ask twice for the handsoap in the bathroom to be refilled. Also there was obvious signs of vomit left uncleaned, waste paper on floors in toilet stalls, clogged sinks. The AC just did not work in the room sleeping 8 people during heatwave and we were told it could not be serviced. There were no curtains on beds as advertised. Breakfast is €5.50 not €3.50 as stated on property info. Location was only positive to this stay.

Broken aircon so was 30 degrees throughout the night in a dorm full of 14. Very unwelcoming atmosphere, no one is talking. Only good thing about it was the location. Would definitely not recommend
