Overview

Live the high life in Lisbon at Safestay Lisboa, housed in the 18th century villa of a wealthy local family. Come and visit us for luxury style fit for the most picky of backpackers! You'll find traditional features like three-metre high ceilings, original fireplaces and wooden floors. Set yourself up for the day with a continental breakfast for just 2 euros in the large dining area. Later, mix with other travellers in the TV room or chill-out area by our 24-hour reception. In the evenings, head to the bar for a cheap beer and a chat – or simply unwind on the private courtyard.

Location

At the crossroads of bohemian Bairro Alto and super-stylish Chiado, we're in one of Lisbon's oldest and most traditional neighbourhoods. Take the 5-minute climb up to Miradouro de São Pedro de Alcântara for one of the city's best views, or jump on the Ascensor da Glória funicular and head down to downtown Baixa (both are under 5 minutes away on foot). Coming from the airport, you’ll need to take the Aerobus to its final stop at Restauradores Square and then walk the final 5 minutes. Rossio Train Station and Restauradores metro stop are just 200 metres away.

Rooms and Dorms

We have rooms ranging from doubles to dorms, with both private and shared bathrooms. Female-only dorms are also available, and all beds come with personal power sockets, storage lockers and free bedding. Some of the rooms have original features and a balcony, but we've got all mod cons too: you can use our free Wi-Fi throughout the building.

Extras and activities

Our lovely big common area is filled with bean bags and squashy sofas where you can put your feet up after a big day. There are DVDs and boardgames to make you feel at home, and computers to catch up with your favourite family members. Hire a bicycle from us to see the city at speed, then cook up a feast for new friends on the barbecue.

    Superb

I had a good time. This is the second time I stayed here in Lisbon, thé last time six years ago! Staff were super friendly, showers are great and overall nice atmosphere. I made a lot of friends and had a good experience. The location is perfect and it is also right next to another fun hostel so you can easily intermingle between the both and meet people! Thanks for another good stay!

    Fabulous

The staff were very very friendly! I loved the location of the place too. It’s so easy to walk to Rossio Square or catch the metro to anywhere in Lisboa. The rooms were very well cleaned and big. There were good amounts of storage space too. With lots of places to hang coats/clothes etc. One disadvantage was that the beds were designed strangely and the ladders were really narrow. So it was pretty hard to get off of the top bunk for me (I’m only 161cm). Otherwise, I loved it!

    Fabulous

Safestay Lisbon was overall an OK hostel. The bedrooms were large and the beds relatively comfortable. The windows were open in the winter and it was pretty cold at night. The bathrooms were a little gross, as was the kitchen, but they weren't so bad that I would advise against staying. We also met some nice people here, so the atmosphere was pretty good. Location is great. Most of downtown Lisbon is available to you on foot.

    Very Good

    04 Nov 2019
The location is good, the staff is polite, and the balcony is spacious. Kitchen is also very big and well equipped. I have stayed at some other hostels in Lisbon and another big upside to this one is that it is very quiet if you are looking to get rest. That said, my room was not ready for the check-in time, bathrooms are quite cramped, and I spotted more than one dead roach in the hallways. Cleaning staff could also be very loud when entering the rooms- even if people are sleeping.

It is a big hostel with 3 floors and there are only 2 showers that are currently working. I had to wait for a long time to have a shower. There was no butter at the breakfast.

The hostel was in a great location and had a nice outdoor area and good kitchen. Staff weren’t overly helpful, there were only 2 showers for the whole hostel and they were quite dirty. They advertised cocktails and spirits at the bar but when asked they said they didn’t have ingredients to make them.

Sad to see a place go downhill. I first came a couple years ago when it was called Equity Point, met new travel buddies who I'm still in touch with, enjoyed the place enough to want to come back. But this time it didn't meet the bare minimum standards- there was no hot water in the showers, the guy on duty said he would fix it but never did; there was also no ladder to climb up into the bunk beds and a rude drawn out process to get a stool. Disappointing and uncomfortable.

Door to the room was broken, there was no light near the bed, the window was broken and it was extremely cold. I had a bed next to the window and people were outside smoking and making noise until 3 am, the window was broken so it was like they were standing right next to my bed and talking. No proper duvet even in the winter time, the floor was dirty and sticky, the luggage room had no lock and if you wanted to leave your suitcase there, it was 100% on your own risk, since they wouldn't lock it

We only got 1 badge per room which we had to leave at the reception when going out. People's identity was not checked when entering the hostel and badges were given to anyone who asked without checking if you are actually staying at the foresaid room. Friends got their belongings stolen this way, including laptops. The hostel is also frequented by junkies, one of whom I confronted whilst wearing stolen clothes (taken from our room). Safestay Hostel is everything but safe, stay away!
