Overview

The Salmon Weir Hostel is just two minutes from the banks of the River Corrib in lively central Galway. After a day hiking the coast path or exploring the city, reboot with a free barbecue on our sheltered outdoor terrace. As the nightlife hub of the west, Galway is packed full of pubs and clubs that'll show you how to party like the Irish. We've extended our curfew to 3 in the morning for those who want to hit the town, and we brew free tea and coffee to wake you up the next day.

Location

Shannon is the nearest airport to Galway. Hop on a Bus Éireann coach and be in the city centre in an hour. We're right in the heart of town, so you can walk through the historic streets and stop off at the 16th-century Spanish arch (home to the City Museum) or drop into Galway Cathedral. The bus and train stations are a 5-minute walk from the hostel, so exploring further out into Ireland is easy.

Rooms and Dorms

If you're on a trip with a partner or buddy we have private twin and double rooms for a bit of extra personal space. Or choose mixed dorms in a range of sizes depending on how sociable you're feeling! Rooms are homely and have fresh linen ready when you arrive. And each bunk has its own locker so you can safely stow your backpack. We've got towels and hairdryers for hire if you've decided to travel light.

Extras and activities

With free Wi-Fi and internet access at our computer stations, you can stay connected on your Irish adventure. If you've hired a bike to explore the area under your own steam you can park up in our cycle store. Make the most of our free city maps and scour our travel library for inspiration. Our large common room has a TV, DVDs and board games for nights when you're giving the pub a miss. And our communal kitchen's always open!

    Fabulous

Great location. 3 am curfew. The cleanliness wasn’t great - the water from the taps tasted a little mouldy and the kitchen was sort of cluttered but the rooms themselves were alright. It would be great if they could recycle!! The staff were very accommodating and the atmosphere was nice :) Overall a very homey hostel!

Basic enough hostel but to be found in an excellent location. Great to have a kitchen and the place had a homely feel to it. I would go back.

    Very Good

The location was everything! So central and easy to walk to and from. Galway is so beautiful! We were in a 4 bed and we were lucky it was just the two of us as it was too small for 4 people. We kept hitting our heads on the bunk and we are very short. Good to have a few private bathrooms! Really appreciated that. There were crackers under our beds from other quests and the communal areas were cluttered.

    Very Good

Staff was great, but sometimes we had to wait a few good minutes before having anyone opening the front door (having a key would be nice). We stayed in a twin room for 1 night, the room was small but comfortable. The bathroom was the main issue. On ground floor, there is one bathroom with toilet and shower for 3 rooms. Not practical when you have to use the toilet and someone's in the shower. Wasn't very clean, dirty shower and wet floor. Couldn't make the shower work either. Ok for 1 night tho.

    Good

The place is cramped, the private double room we booked had barely enough space to take one's clothes off; you have to squeeze through the door to enter one of the bathrooms if you don't want to step into the toilet. The most expensive hostel from the three we stayed in in Ireland, but the rooms and facilities are only baisc (the kitchen is good enough, I guess) - low value for money.

Do not come here. You can smell the smoke from the room. Water pressure was so weak that I had to give up taking shower. Dirty and dusty dorm without window. The gap between bunk beds is very tight that only one person can walk through. Top 3 of the worst hostels that I have ever been to.

This property was very unclean and unsafe. None of the doors had locks on them and anyone could walk in our out of the hostel. There were no checks to ensure safety or that people that were staying in the hostel were the only ones there. The bathrooms were not clean and there was mold rampant throughout the bathrooms. The hostel had a terrible smell and the bed were not comfortable.

One of the worst hostels I've stayed in. Bathrooms were filthy, I'd be surprised if they were cleaned weekly. Bins were overflowing and there was no toilet paper. Rooms were cramped and extremely messy. There was clearly no system in place for managing rooms, as I was woken up to drama about someone being put in someone else's bed. The price is cheap bht considering no breakfast is included it's not that cheap. Would not recommend
