Property Description

Samay is an Ecohostel surrounded by rainforest in the Putumayo department, located at the very beginning of the Andes mountain range and the outskirt of the Colombian Amazon. Our motivation is to provide a space where one can spend some peaceful time in harmony with nature. In order to make this world a little greener, we use as little recources as possible based on recycling more than throwing away the trash we produce. On the property we have a huge diversity of local plants, e.g. herbs and fruits that are free for exploration and consumption. In the middle of the garden there are two fishponds, one of them partly covered by a roofed platform that can be used for camping or relaxing. We have our own natural swimming pool down a short jungle path from which you can see the Rio Mocoa flowing. In the front yard there is a small shop where you can find tourist information about the area and local handcrafts as a souvenir. Also there is a parking area and a playground for children in the garden as well as roofed areas to eat and relax for grownups.

Hostal Samay is around the hostel there are various possibilities to explore the beauty of Putumayo. We offer tours around the area, and also provide contact to other guides as well as indigenous people to get to know more about the culture and all the places that are worth seeing. There are many beautiful waterfalls to be visited, the best examples for sure are Fin del Mundo and Ojo de Dios. Each of them can be reached within 1 ½ hours of walking through the forest and over bridges crossing the Rio Mocoa. The way there is an adventure by itself, as you can observe pure nature and tropical animals surrounding you.
Furthermore there is the Canyon Mandiyaco close by, a mariposario called Paway and the C.E.A., a zoo and a rehabilitation for tropical animals.

Last but not least sports enthusiasts will be able to find various activities such as hiking, climbing, biking, horse back riding, kayaking, paraglyding and many more
Besides the camping area we offer beds and hammocks for sleeping. On the first floor we have two rooms with one double bed each and one shared bathroom with a shower, as well as a living space with hammocks, a couch and a TV. On the second floor there is one room with three double beds and two single beds, access to a balcony as well as a shared bathroom with shower.
Additionally, there are hammocks outside the house to be used as sleeping or relaxing opportunities. The third toilet and shower are outdoors as well as the kitchen, which is fully equiped with a gas stove and a fridge to store and prepare your meals. Aside from that, the hostal provides WiFi and a washing machine and is a non-smoking area.

This was one of the nicest stays in Colombia we had. Juan who leads the hostel is very nice guy to talk. He knows the location and surroundings very well, and so he can help with planning your trips. Thanks to him we saw beautiful locations. I and my friends slept in dorm which has very comfy beds and even though there is noise from the road we all slept very well in compare to other locations in Colombia. Hostel has very well equipped kitchen and a swimming pool in forest which is great place f

I loved the atmosphere in Samay, the tranquility. The hostal is located very closely to Fin del Mundo, and also the Hornoyako waterfall is at walking dsitance. Juan knows a lot about all the things to do. Juan is an inspiring person who makes the hostal a special place to stay.

Quaint little hippie hostel, mellow vibe, great hosts, close to the hike to Cascada Fin Del Mundo and the restaurant across the street serves up a fantastic fish plate.

The private rooms were great, the breakfast was so amazing we purchased it every morning. Staff were lovely and helpful. Only downside we’re the roosters starting at 5 in the morning, so not good if you like to sleep in. Other then that everything was great, loved the private pool!

Wonderful location, I had a magical time here. The staff are really humble and the views are outstanding. My only recommendation is to bring your own food!! not too much available in the area.

How to describe this place? I met a lot of interesting people here, mainly because this area attracts a particular type of seeker... There's a well-equipped kitchen and lots of outdoor space (including a pool). It's also close to lots of rivers and waterfalls and Mocoa is a short drive away. But be prepared for a certain amount of chaos. On many days there was only one volunteer member of staff and often there was no running water. Sometimes it felt like the guests were running the place.

Could be a lovely place, but it's very much left to its own, and not taken care of, which is a shame, ad it has a lot of potential

You should be aware that most of the people here visit Mocoa for Ayahuasca rituals. Therefore the Hostal has a certain ethno/hippie vibe including joss sticks, didgeridoos, endless jam sessions and people talking crazy stuff about psyhedelic experiences. They are all peacful people, still we didn‘t feel comfortable there an left obe day earlier than planned (and got a very generous discount). The Hostal itself is nothing special, a bit far from town, with minimal comfort and a very bad shower.

Far from town. Staff nice but not knowledge about attractions and when they close. Very loud. Dogs, roosters z and road noise. Hard to sleep. Construction going on so hard to enjoy the jungle atmosphere. Cats and chickens constantly in your food.
