Property Description

The Sharehouse is offering a genuine traveller's accommodation “for its members only” so that they can enjoy our great place in the middle of the historical center. You can get your membership card upon arrival and we also accept other non-profit youth hostel membership cards.

Operated by volunteers from everywhere in the world, the Sharehouse is a “learning-by-doing” community project dedicated to sustainable development, social entrepreneurship and Youth Cooperation. We are still improving our place until mid 2018. We are already operating for people who are not afraid to sleep in a basic accommodation. We welcome all travellers who are eager to help our “work in progress”. Moreover, we operate a local organic kitchen, a French school, and a project space.

We are located at the very center of the historical city, just one bloc down to the "Vieux-Port".
From the Sharehouse you can easily access the heart of Marseille and all touristic sites like our famous 'Calanques' national park.

Friendly atmosphere! Delicious food. You can tell staff value the hostel and the work they are doing in the way that they care for the building.

Sharehouse is a social and friendly hostel in a fantastic location. The volunteers and the owner are helpful and kind and the nightly community dinners are delicious and great fun! I met some awesome people here and would highly recommend this place to anyone who likes a communal vibe. My only criticism would be that there is only one washroom/shower between all the volunteers and guests and when it's occupied there is no way to wash your hands after using the toilets. So bring hand sanitizer!

Nice view of the Dock, overseeing where an old canal used to be. Restaurants below. Right in the heart of Marseille. Huge big common area, kitchen facilities are good, bring and cook your own food or eat the community dinner for €5.00, usually around 8 or 8:30. Couple of sofas, bean bags, pretty chill area. Beds are comfy. Had chargers by the bed and cages under the bed. One shower among everyone. Sinks in there too. You can't do laundry here but can do down the street and it's reasonable.

    Very Good

The staff (or the community members) are lovely and it's nice that a basic breakfast is included. Dorm room is huge, quiet and clean. The location is perfect. Only gripe is if you're getting back super late I'm not sure you'd be able to get in, and there only seems to be one shower in the corner of a large laundry room with two doors, and only one of the doors locks.

What a horrible experience. They need better signage. The dude working the night shift had no idea what he was doing. The worst is the sleeping facility. One large room with 15+ beds and a double GLASS DOOR facing the lobby and no windows. The room is NEVER fully dark, is loud bc of the door and check in desk being right outside. Its dark-no lights during the day--people always sleeping maybe bc they cant sleep at night. Ive stayed in a dozen+ hostels n am a heavy sleeper but this was the worst.

Unaware until after we booked that we had to become members to stay there. Most of the staff were the most unfriendly I have ever encountered on my trip. We felt extremely unwelcome and uncomfortable being in the hostel. It was almost like we were intruding on a weird commune. Only one big room and shower for everyone. Staff could come in and out if the shower room when we were showering as doubled as their laundry. Also don’t appear to wash the warmer blankets between use...
