Hostelworld says

Shuyuan International Party Hostel is located about five minutes' walk from the metro going to the Giant Wild Goose Pagoda and Stele Forest Museum, and is also within walking distance of the Muslim Quarter and Shaanxi History Museum. This hostel features free weekly BBQs and dumpling parties as well as Western food in their bar and restaurant. One Hostelworld guest said, 'even though it's called a party hostel, there are still plenty of places you can have a quiet conversation, a game of ping pong, or whatever you choose. It's a great place to meet other travelers'.

Property Description

Shuyuan is Xi’an’s original backpackers’ hostel, and though often imitated we’re never duplicated.

We’re perfectly located in the heart of the flourishing cultural and shopping district. The location is definitely the best in Xi’an, as it's so central and easy to find everything; you truly are in the heart of Xi’an culture.

The hostel itself is a rare, preserved traditional Chinese courtyard house, an original and not a recently rebuilt imitation building.

We have several outdoor and indoor seating areas with a very relaxing atmosphere, including our chill-out garden plus a popular café, free Wi-Fi, very friendly staff, a great atmosphere and lots of travellers.

All of our staff speak English and will do their best to make your stay in Xi’an as comfortable and accommodating as possible.

In that same spirit we also offer a full host of tours and guides to Xi’an's most famous sites. If it is off the beaten track you are looking for than we can help you there, too; many of our staff are travellers themselves and know what it is travellers are looking for when they come to a new place!

We offer budget tours to local tourist sites including the Terracotta Warriors and the panda conservation centre, along with flights, trains and permits to Tibet. We can also arrange tickets to a Tang Dynasty dancing and singing show and the cheapest Yangtze River cruise tour around. Ask us about our car services!

Here at Shuyuan we try our best to make your experience in Xi’an as memorable as possible. The free welcome coffee or tea, we take every opportunity to make you feel welcome and relaxed.

Every Friday night we hold a free dumpling-making party, a perfect opportunity to get to know new friends and Xi’an's culinary traditions.. Mixing Western and Chinese style, it's a candlelit affair with music and plenty of fun. And—as always—we have free 24-hours Wi-Fi.

We also have one of Xi’an's most popular bars in-house. Park Qin bar is a place where locals and travellers mix, laugh, and enjoy the evenings. Newly renovated, it’s been featured in the local ex-pat magazine and has gained recognition as one of Xi’an's premier bars.

We provide many free services, including free train station pick-up (6.30am-9am; inform us in advance), a library of English books and guidebooks, luggage storage, domestic and international plane ticket booking, travel info, hot showers, local area maps, delivery and a DVD room with a wide selection of subtitled movies. Not to mention our free billiards, dart board, guitar and table tennis!

We also feature laundry facilities, a bike-hire service, airport pick-up and transfer, live sports matches and news, international IP calling cards and an onward booking service for other popular hostels throughout China. Here you can exchange books (2 for 1) and burn DVDs and CDs or send a fax.

We serve a western-style breakfast with black coffee, cappuccino, latte or espresso.

We’re only a few minutes’ walk from the vibrant shopping district and the Muslim Quarter. Walking up and down the main road, you’ll find everything from high-class dining to local restaurants, enough to provide for all tastes and budgets. Behind our hostel is Defu Lane which has over 30 cafés, bars and tea houses. View House Rules

Beautiful hostel, one of the nicer I've ever stayed in. Also fantastic location, right on the city wall. Plenty of great places to eat, drink and sight see nearby. The 3 mini courtyard common areas are a delight to sit in and relax, similarly the bar and/or adjoining cafe are very welcoming. Staff were extremely helpful and kind. Wish I had more than 2 nights here!

A great place to stay. I felt very welcomed and staff were very helpful even struggling through the language barrier at some points. Loved the free lesson making dumplings and eating them after. Would love to return.

Only a small bathroom for male and female simultaneously. There was only the bar as common area. Overall a nice hostel

Nice location, very close to the entrance of the City Wall. Walking distance to downtown and moslimquarter. Staf was very helpful. The staff does clean but it somehow the cleanliness definition is different in China especially in the shower area. Hostel is connected with a bar. The bar was full almost every day I stayed there. Although it has a separate entrance for non hostel visitors, i found that these visitors could easily walk freely within the hostel area.

None of the activities the hostel has on the what’s happening board happened while I was there. The location is great, right by the wall and train station. The staff seemed hesitant to help me figure out how to take the bus to the warriors and instead seemed to be trying to convince me to join their tour.

Really good location, it’s super close to the Muslim quarter and right by the city walls. There are lots of places in the hostel you can chill out. Comfy bed in the dorm and the showers where hot and powerful. I would skip the tours they sell, they are pretty pricey and it’s super easy to do them yourself.

The hostel has a great location, and a helpful staff. I did find the dorms and the bathrooms very dirty. The hostel is not really a "party hostel" a part from the bar they have in the basement.

Shuyuan International Party Hostel says

I think what really makes our hostel special is the unique experience we offer guests. We're facing the city wall, with a beautiful traditional Chinese courtyard and a cafe serving excellent western-style food-especially pizza.
I really recommend exploring the city walls as well as the tomb of JingDi (Han Yang Ling). Also nearby are the bell and drum tower, the Muslim quarter and the stone tablets museum.
For fun around here we like to throw free dumpling parties every Friday and then head out to the popular terracotta-style bar, Park Qin. We welcome every type of guest, no matter their age or nationality. Guo Qiang, Manager
