Property Description

As passionate travelers, it is our dream to own a little sanctuary at home where we can travel vicariously through hosting fellow travelers and sharing travel tales. Singgahsana is the fulfillment of this dream.

Having stayed in every sort of accommodation imaginable worldwide from the immaculate to the appalling, Singgahsana is our version of the ideal home away from home.

As avid art appreciators and owners of an art gallery, we attempt to infuse Singgahsana with our touch of Sarawak Style. Our guests will know that they are in exotic Sarawak, Malaysian Borneo when they awake each morning to a room filled with unique local decor. Artefacts collected from the 30 or more ethnic tribes of Sarawak adorn the common area. Even the ubiquitous lamps of your room have been cleverly made out of utilitarian baskets and the floor covered with rattan and bark mats.

Travel photographs decorate each wall bringing sweet memories of the many destinations we have travel to.

Regular travels abroad have made us appreciate our home even more. Sarawak's great diversity both in its peoples and its nature makes it totally unique. But above all these, our Bornean home is exceptionally special because of its sickeningly warm hospitality as aptly put by a friend and regular visitor to Sarawak.

We hope to have the opportunity to make your stay in Kuching a good one. View House Rules

Very good. It’s a shop house, busy road at the front, a great base if your a solo traveler. Good, mature staff to help you, plus it’s safe. Showers/toilets all ok, the bunk bed was fine.

If you want to make friends this is the place to go, the hostel had an amazing vibe in the beautiful roof top hostel bar. The staff were really helpful and friendly and gave good advice about seeing the local area at an affordable rate!

Good location We used shared dorm, was very noisy as it is so close to a main road and the beds were not cleaned between people Bathroom was ok not amazing No facilities to make breakfast. But tea and coffee was provided. Staff at reception were helpful but not super friendly. The bar upstairs is good and quite social.

Probably the only hostel worth staying in Kuching. That being said I stayed there for four nights and never saw any cleaning staff. The washrooms aren't particularly clean. Being that you have to leave your shoes at the bottom floor and there are no washroom slippers you're basically going to the toilet barefoot. Bring flip-flops with you or feel gross. The art in my private room was a 2m X 2m picture of a woman with face tattoos. Normally this would be fine, but not at that size.

Our stay here was very disappointing. We booked for 3 weeks, however felt compelled to leave after 4 days. The staff seemed to be disinterested in making us feel comfortable (other than one manager), our private room was small and poorly maintained with the window painted black so was very dark. The air con was not working properly and 'free' bikes are for max 2 hours. The price is also significantly higher than others in this area but no breakfast or water refill so poor value for money.

Great location but the place needs some tlc. Staff were hit and miss: some great, some rude. Tours were good but my airport transfer was 30min late because he was 'asleep upstairs'. Black mould in the bathroom and looked like it hadn't had a good clean in a while. No Wi-Fi in the bedrooms so the great communal area turned into a silent Wi-Fi spot (Wi-Fi was available there). Overall I think the place needs to be updated to keep in line with other newer spots. Also provide a fridge for guests!

The deluxe room is a very basic room with a bathroom. The room was beside the communal toilets and clearly shared the same drain as it gurgled and smelt bad, the bathroom door was covered in black mould and the toilet leaked, generally a smelly room and you are better using the communal toilet. If a s staff not particularly helpful, use goals and download grab is the best advice I can give. No shoes rule also frustrating when you need to carry your case upstairs in bare feet.
