Property Description

Skye Backpackers sits in the picturesque fishing village of Kyleakin, skirted by mountains and sea. It's a small, cosy hostel with an open fire in the lounge and a lovely backyard garden.

Come and stay in this wee village; the gateway to the Isle of Skye. With its lively pub atmosphere and quiet, comfortable accommodation, Kyleakin is the perfect place to come to escape the stresses of city life.

The Isle of Skye is situated on the West coast of mainland Scotland, and is the largest and best known of the Inner Hebrides. One of Europe's most dramatic and haunting lands, words can do little justice to describe Skye's awesome beauty. The majestic Cuillin Mountains dominate a rugged landscape that is peppered with lochs and tiny fishing villages.

Take some time to explore the island's haunted castle ruins; feel the mysterious presence of the legendary faeries in tranquil glens, waterfalls and mountain pools; visit whiskey distilleries and sample local beers and ales; take a relaxing stroll through the countryside or boldly ascend a mighty mountain.

We can offer you suggestions of what to see and do each day, and we hope that you will leave the Isle of Skye feeling refreshed, exhilarated and peaceful!

We offer a variety of accommodation from our standard mixed and female dormitories, and for the traveller on a budget we have our basic dormitory, which is a converted caravan situated in the back garden.

The hostel reception is open from 7am - 12 noon and then from 5pm - 10pm. If you arrive in the afternoon, please feel free to leave your bags and use the facilities, and then check-in between 5pm-10pm. If you think you may arrive later than 10pm, please let us know so that we may inform our night porter of your late check-in.

Such a great hostel! It's a bit smaller than your average hostel, but I think this is why I loved it. Being slightly more intimate, it was very easy to meet people, & it felt like a community instead of a hotel environment. The kitchen facilities were fantastic - with all the equipment you would need to sort out a dinner & loads of fridge & shelf space to store your groceries. Added bonus being the markers & labels. Also, the sweetest cat ever. Great staff too, loved them! And a coal fire! :D

The atmosphere and location of this hostel make it an incredibly cozy place to stay. Facilities are great as is the cleanliness. Staff are very friendly people. There are no lockers but otherwise the security is perfectly fine.

free tea/coffee and awesome kitchen! The staff (none of which were Scottish:/) were very loud, which was annoying, but generally friendly and helpful. The village is so small you can't really have a bad location. Not great bathrooms and no lockers.

This place is probably great in the summer. In October the building was very cold and it didn’t seem heat was working well and staff never built a fire unlike every other Hostel where the fireplace was the center of social life. Kitchen had everything you needed. Ample parking. Rooms fairly comfortable and felt secure.

    Very Good

Lovely location. Wifi a bit sketchy. Option for continental breakfast was good and some pubs close by for dinner. Very nice and cosy lounge area. Room was small but clean. Only 1 loo and 1 shower on our floor which made things a bit interesting .

We stayed here as a family for 3 nights. The hostel itself was quite nice, our family room was warm and inviting. Our only issue with this stay was unfortunately the staff who constantly overtook the kitchen area so it made it very difficult for guests to cook and find a sitting area or even plates at times! They seemed to cook in large numbers every night and had no respect for the guests using the facilities. Having stayed at many other hostels I have never experienced this before elsewhere :(

Rooms smelt bad. WiFi literally doesn't work anywhere apart from within a meter of reception. Reception is only open 7-12 and 5-10 (?) which isn't clearly advertised on HostelWorld - I arrived at 12 and had just missed the morning reception staff and couldn't check in or ask for advice. Staff were unhelpful and kinda creepy. No cages or lockers in rooms. Deposit for room key is tedious and stupid. Not a great location, village is tiny and isolated unless you have a car. Was always cold inside.
