Property Description

Skye Backpackers sits in the picturesque fishing village of Kyleakin, skirted by mountains and sea. It's a small, cosy hostel with an open fire in the lounge and a lovely backyard garden.

Come and stay in this wee village; the gateway to the Isle of Skye. With its lively pub atmosphere and quiet, comfortable accommodation, Kyleakin is the perfect place to come to escape the stresses of city life.

The Isle of Skye is situated on the West coast of mainland Scotland, and is the largest and best known of the Inner Hebrides. One of Europe's most dramatic and haunting lands, words can do little justice to describe Skye's awesome beauty. The majestic Cuillin Mountains dominate a rugged landscape that is peppered with lochs and tiny fishing villages.

Take some time to explore the island's haunted castle ruins; feel the mysterious presence of the legendary faeries in tranquil glens, waterfalls and mountain pools; visit whiskey distilleries and sample local beers and ales; take a relaxing stroll through the countryside or boldly ascend a mighty mountain.

We can offer you suggestions of what to see and do each day, and we hope that you will leave the Isle of Skye feeling refreshed, exhilarated and peaceful!

We offer a variety of accommodation from our standard mixed and female dormitories, and for the traveller on a budget we have our basic dormitory, which is a converted caravan situated in the back garden.

The hostel reception is open from 7am - 12 noon and then from 5pm - 10pm. If you arrive in the afternoon, please feel free to leave your bags and use the facilities, and then check-in between 5pm-10pm. If you think you may arrive later than 10pm, please let us know so that we may inform our night porter of your late check-in.

We enjoyed staying at Skye Backpackers. It was perfect for our needs. Nice quiet place to stay and a few nice bars around and a beautiful view. Great access to the mainland over the bridge and loved our visit to nearby Plockton and Eilean Donan Castle. We stayed two nights on Northern Skye and two night in Southern Skye so this place was great for exploring across the Skye Bridge

Heather is the best hostel manager ever! She made check in easy and I felt so welcome on Skye. Great pub down the road for ending the evening with drinks and games. Can’t wait to go back on my next trip to Skye.

Probably my favourite hostel I’ve stayed in so far, everyone there was really nice. Kitchen facilities were really good, only annoying thing was it wasn’t really close to anything on Skye but I would still recommend anyone visiting Skye to stay here at least one night, was worth it!

It's located at a great location with a lively right up front. The staff are friendly and the vibe is great. The rooms and beds were been and a well stocked and accessible kitchen. There is parking inside the premises too. The only little thing was the rush for the tiny showers and bathrooms in the morning. Great stay overall !!

Had a lovely stay at Skye Backpackers, happy with my choice . I had a twin private room - enough floor space for two of us but barely. Mattresses are thin but comfortable enough. Room was warm and clean. Shower was strong and hot. Kitchen was well equipped , breakfast was a reasonable price for a good (albeit basic) range. Note there's no elevator, so be prepared for stairs and narrow corridors. If you're coming through here to get to the rest of Skye I'd recommend a car.

Skye backpackers was a great base for exploring the Isle of Skye. The island is difficult to get around without a car so I’d recommend if you don’t have a car to stay in Portree. Just behind the hostel is a castle which was 45 min return and offered a pretty viewpoint over the harbour. There are also two abandoned boats. My friend and I had two nights in the caravan outside and one night indoors. There are not many showers in the hostel but we never had a problem waiting. Helpful staff too.

Been a while since I stayed in a hostel. Not much has changed. I was out in the back garden in one of the caravans 5 bunk beds, so 10 people. £20 for one night, cuppa and hot shower in the morning. Suited me. Staff friendly and nice area for the one night. I regularly get the ferry from Uig, so would probably stay again.

We stayed for 3 nights. I do not recommend this hostel for the following reasons: 1. Location is poor if you are traveling on foot or via public transport. The closest co-op is a 45 minute walk and busses are not frequent. 2. Wifi doesn't reach the back caravans. If you stay in the yellow welly caravan, you will not have good wifi. 3. The outside caravan showers are cold with low water pressure. Plan to shower inside the main building for a more comfortable experience.
