In the heart of leafy Bloomsbury in central London, Smart Russell Square Hostel is a cool little hideaway. Our idea is to help you explore this pricey without breaking the bank. Just outside the hostel, you’ll find buses that run 24 hours a day so you can travel day or night for cheap. Grab a free city map from reception to start planning your to-do list, log into free Wi-Fi throughout the hostel and enjoy a cheap and cheerful breakfast daily to help cut costs so you can focus on exploring.

Close to transport hubs like St Pancras Station and the London Underground, it's easy to reach sightseeing destinations and world-class museums (most of them free!) from here. You can get to Heathrow Airport in about an hour via the 'tube' as Londoners say (meaning underground), or catch the Eurostar to France from St Pancras. We're within walking distance of famous shopping precincts like Oxford Circus and Covent Garden, both around a half-hour wander, as well as top spots like Leicester Square, the National Portrait Gallery and Trafalgar Square.

Rooms and Dorms

Drawing from the city vibe, many of our dorms feature photo murals of iconic London sights. Most of our dorms are mixed, with either shared or private bathrooms. We have one female-only dorm, as well as twin rooms with private bathroom. Bed linen is free, and each dorm bed comes with a privacy curtain, a personal plug socket and a storage locker. For extra security, the hostel's front entrance and all rooms require a key-card to get in.

Extras and activities

Hang out in the common room in front of our huge TV or set up your laptop at a communal bench to catch up on your favourite series. Grab a snack from a vending machine, or head to the shared kitchen to see what’s cooking. You can chat to the 24-hour reception team for tips or to book discounted tickets to attractions like Madame Tussaud's, the London Eye and various popular West End shows.

Location and price can't be beaten. Beds were comfortable. Staff mostly helpful, with some exceptions. Good camaraderie amongst the residents The worst aspect was the kitchen. It was useless. No plates, no cups, no knives, no forks, no spoons. I couldn't even make a cup of coffee, and only 2 or 3 small microwaves and an electric kettle for cooking.

very clean, good facilities but the staff let the place down. They weren't friendly or welcoming at all, came across very abrupt and sometimes even rude. Probably wouldn't stay her again

This place has a great location and is very affordable. However you get what you pay for. He mattresses are incredibly bad, i could barely sleep on them. Also the hvac in the rooms is poorly managed, the room was far too stuffy even with the window open. The beds do not accommodate larger people, I'm six foot and barely fit lengthwise, and you cannot sit up in bed. The clients that this hostel attracted were rather unpleasant, and even only staying one night had several negative interactions.

Very unprofessional manner, without customer services (only for one guy) from front desk office . I explained for 15 minutes that my booking was accepted and my card was debited. Only wifi, sheet bed, tv, and kitchen are free! This hostel do not follow gov guidelines anti covid because some people have Covid in this hostel and spread their illness without sanitised their hands or isolate themselves in private rooms. Restrooms are dirty (with poo and toilet paper everywhere)

There is a gas smell in the building and the lack of the air, there is no place to sit outside the building for non-smokers, and no electricity outside the building. Staff disturbs the customers, frightens, sometimes shouts on the customers. There is also washing powder smell in the dining area. The gas is for sure dangerous and together with the lack of the air reduce thinking efficiency a lot. Hostel is not good for the people who need to work mentally, despite it is close to the Hyde Park.

The place was stinky, restrooms were really messy. I left my bicycle outside with two locks and someone managed to break them and stole my bicycle. Staff were rude.
