Absolutely loved staying here — from the amazing staff, to the great location and homey feeling I couldn't have enjoyed a hostel more. The free breakfast toast and bike rentals also added value to our stay, made it easier for more adventure. Highly recommend staying here and don't hesitate to ask the staff for advice on places to go/eat or general chats because they're awesome.

What a lovely and cozy hostel! Wonderful atmosphere of this beautifully converted hostel and cafe space with such a history and artsy vibe in the interior. The staff are so friendly and helpful with suggestions, and they also serve food in the cafe for lunch/dinner which is so nice to have close by. Incredible chefs. Close to Nijo Castle and the Manga Museum and an easy bus ride to get to main transit and touristy spots. Would come again.

Perfect location for Kyoto, very short walk to buses that go to arashiyama monkey park and fushi inari taisha. Also only a 20 minute walk to the night markets with amazing street food. Directly opposite nijo-jo castle and a short 20 min walk to the imperial palace. The hostel is very quaint and if you're looking for a little bit of traditional japanese housing style then this is the place for you!

Beautiful old building, very close to Nijō Castle, and quite close to the intersection of the two Kyoto city subway lines. We were worried initially when we went upstairs since we were there in summer and it was not air conditioned, but the rooms themselves are. Slightly annoying to have to go downstairs through the common area to use the shower, but the little courtyard you walk through is lovely. Minimal kitchen facilities if you planned to do that. Other than that, absolutely fantastic.

This hostel is a little quicky. The bathroom and showers are located out back. Its neat but just odd. The location is great.

We had an okay-ish stay at Tabetoma Hostel. We were kinda the only people there which made the hostel feel very empty and boring. However, the room was clean, bathrooms were clean, we had our toasts in the morning and rented some bikes. Wish we would've met some cool people!

The worst hostel experience I have had in my life. Was bitten by mosquitoes many times due to the poor insect control in this hostel. The hostel is run down (wooden house) and the place is very small. The walls are super thin so you can hear the neighbors as well as people talking on the streets. The owner doesn't seem to care too much about the guest, but rather on his restaurant business he runs down on the first floor. Highly would not recommend staying here.
