I stayed at the barrel for almost a month & everything about the place is amazing. Perfect location, comfortable beds, very affordable & friendly staff. The owner, Leslia, was always on call to help me with anything i needed & went above & beyond to make sure my stay was nothing short of amazing.

We spent 3 nights at this hostel and loved it! It’s clean, in the perfect location, only a short walk down the beach to the main surf break with loads of cool restaurants along the beach if you fancied switching it up a bit. The food at the barrel itself was always a high standard at a good price. The staff were all lovely, so friendly and incredibly helpful and it was amazing to see how well they had rebuilt from the hurricane last October. I would recommend the barrel hostel to all!!

I got here and forgot to go the ATM before I got to town and the owner was super accommodating! Made me feel at home and gave me time to make it in town to the ATM before coming. Restaurant is great.

Excellent location. Friendly, helpful staff. Secure. Clean bathrooms, rooms. Food and drink is expensive relative to local options, however food is tasty. Extra 10% added to bill at end of stay. Great atmosphere with music, tables, chairs etc.

    Fabulous

Leslia and Epe were great. Went out of their way to accommodate a glitch in booking giving us a great deal on private rooms at their own home. Rooms were great, location is awesome as it’s right on the beach. Food is bland, and slightly over priced but there are other options around. Social scene is available, but seemed difficult to form as travellers stuck to themselves.. Good place to set up and get shuttles to/from Rivas or SJDS.

We really enjoyed the location, amazing beach front accomodation with great wifi. Private room and food was ok, a bit overpriced for quality. Be sure to take note of everything you consume as you pay the bill upon checking out and 10% tax is added on food.

Decent enough location a small walk to town and also to the main break. Rooms are extremely hot and AC is 10us extra per night. Otherwise you have one fan which is not enough. The owner was really helpful. Her husband was so rude when I asked about AC. He said “nothing is free here” and it’s true. He gave the place a really weird vibe. Picking some guests as his weird mates then others he was rude to. Also gutted to find out I paid double online compared to those who showed up. Save your money.

Very dodgy operation. I would not stay here again. Tax was added to our accomodation bill which I had to argue to have removed. Extra drinks and food were added to the bill which we had already paid for at the time we ate / drank them but our passports would not be returned until we paid for them (for the second time). Location is right on the beach which is nice, but it's a 40min walk to "Beginners Bay" where the only good waves could be found.
