The renovation was a little bit of an eyesore, but that's nothing I can do anything about. The breakfast was really good, and the staff was awesome. One minor thing I could do without though is the annoying ringing noise everytime someone walks in or out the building.

This place was fantastic and really good food. The free breakfast was exceptional and you get to choose from about 8 different things on the menu with free refills on coffee. The staff were so friendly and helpful. We had one issue with bed bugs in our dorm but we moved to another and it was fine. Apparently they have had problems with them only in that room so just make sure you don't stay in dorm number 2 and you hopefully should be ok. But please don't be put off because this place was great

Our stay at the Black Cat was great! It’s very close to Central Park in Xela. Sean at the front desk was incredibly helpful; he organized our departure for GC which was really helpful! There was also another guy at the front desk (Louis?) who was super helpful as well. The breakfast was great and the cleaning staff was very on top of things.

Very good hostel in Xela. The breakfast was the best on our hole stay. You just choose from the menu and they make it for you. The beds doesn’t look like must and bot a not of privacy if you are in the dorm rooms. But they are still pretty good to sleep in. They don’t have a kitchen that you are allowed to use. Would stay there again just for the breakfast. But else i would stay at a place with a kitchen.

The included breakfast here is the best - you could choose off their menu, so many options! Friendly staff, very close to the main square.

Really nice hostel, with the best breakfast and dinner i had. Cool staff. They didn’t have blankets for all of us, so some of my friends were cold at night. And i had a problem with the laundry service, they promise to wash it until 7pm and didn’t wash it untill the next day so i had to carry half wet clothes! Not nice!

Great place for Guatemala. Typical standoffish attitude from guests and employees but that seemed to be my experience straight across the board with places in Xela. The breakfast is so worth it though and I would recommend it just for that!

    Very Good

    27 Feb 2019
Staff were extremely helpful with just about any possible issue. The breakfast is huge and good. Bunks are sparse and there’s no privacy (curtains, a solid wood bar, etc. There’s small lockers that you can put valuables in. Location is a block from the Parque Central and 10 minutes from everything in Zona 1. It’s a decent place to crash for a night or two, but it’s not a super-social hostel. There’s only one comfortable place to sit in the common area. Bathrooms are well-stocked but not great.

We found bedbugs about an hour after arriving. This was really late at night and the doorman said he would tell the person at reception the next day, but I'm not sure. He was very nice and allowed us to leave without paying anything (besides the deposit, which we didn't get back). The bedbugs were massive and pretty infested in both beds. When asking around to other people in Xela, no one had even heard of this hostel. The are other three main ones in town.
