Property Description

Voted best hostel in Ireland 2019 by Hostelworld, Also boasts some of the best coffee in town.

This recently renovated, 19th century townhouse is run by a mixture of globetrotters and locals. It’s like a home away from home. Between the knowledge and experience of our Killarney natives and our multi-national Black Sheep team you will not be left short of ideas for what to see and do while in Killarney. Situated on a quiet street just one minute walk from Killarney National Park and one minute walk from Killarney town centre you don’t have far to go for outdoor activities, live entertainment or a lovely pint.
We’ll help you organise trips around Kerry such as boat trips on Killarney’s lakes, guided walks up the highest mountain in Ireland, bus tours around the famous Ring of Kerry and much more. Here you can also get in-depth advice on many walks, treks and cycles in Killarney and Kerry.
Inside our hostel we’ve got the fire on for you in the evening if it’s cold in our super-cosy living room complete with communal guitar, chess board, games, record player and book-share shelf. There’s a fully equipped and homely kitchen with free pasta for the hungry, budget traveller. Then sleep sound in the timber built, pod style beds with your own light, power point, locker space and privacy curtain.

NEW THIS YEAR. LOCALLY ROASTED COFFEE!!!. It's some of the best you'll get in Killarney.

Breakfast is included and consists of fruit, toast, tea, coffee, a selection of jams and spreads, yogurt and cereal and, if you’re lucky, eggs from or chickens.
If you prefer to take it easy you can just chill in the hammock with our ultra-cool hostel dog BOB! He is usually found pottering around our organic vegetable garden trying to figure out where he buried his bone.

PROS:location: near grocery store & tourist stops. Bunks had large lockable storage under bed, ledge, reading light, plugins & privacy curtains, very comfortable mattress, automatic lighting in hallway, not many stairs, small # of beds- more intimate, staff were helpful and hostel had a very friendly atmosphere. Kitchen was inviting. Dogs; Bob and Lou were a nice distraction! 10.00E for laundry - washed, dryed & folded. CONS: desk closes at 9pm, spotty wifi-get both codes, needed key- 5E deposit

I’m disappointed I stayed at this hostel at the beginning of my trip because no hostel will ever compare to the Black Sheep Hostel. Their organic garden was beautiful and they even have chickens and ducks so you can eat an egg for breakfast. The beds were so comfy I felt like I was sleeping in my own, and they also had privacy curtains for each one. The staff was the most lovely I have ever had the pleasure to meet. Lisa even helped me cook when I didn’t know how and Adam was amazing company!!

Most amazing hostel I've stayed at!! I stayed for 3 nights and completely understand why people come back to volunteer for 5 months... Gorgeous homey building, comfy beds with privacy curtains, great free breakfast (though could do with a non-dairy milk option), 2 minutes away from national park, incredible staff... I didn't want to leave. Only downside is not quite enough bathrooms/showers. Still would 100% recommend for anyone visiting Ireland. All reviews are well-deserved

The best hostel we've ever stayed in - does everything right! Nice kitchen, dining and lounge spaces that create a nice sociable atmosphere. Beds have lockers, black-out curtains, personal reading lights and plug sockets. Toilets and showers always clean with soap and towels. Free food and free 'stuff' shelves (eg leftover shampoo) done really well including free pasta to cook with and eggs in the morning. Kitchen can get a bit full as a result! Friendly helpful staff. Massively recommended.

Easily the best hostel I’ve ever stayed at! It smells so nice and has a very ‘home’ feel. The free breakfast is amazing and I loved how the beds had curtains along with being very spacious. Will definitely stay again

    Fabulous

I stayed during summer so that might explain the jacked up prices. I thought over 40 euros for a single bed in a cramped 4 bed dorm was a bit too much! The hostel itself however is very nice, I liked the general eco friendly atmosphere, generous breakfast, and animated kitchen. The facilities were also clean albeit a bit limited, but I never had to wait for anything so it actually worked. It's right next to the National park. Great place to stay.

    Very Good

The hostel was very well kept. Comfortable beds, plenty of storage. The areas I would say needs work is larger shower facilities (too small), non crammed rooms (couldn’t use my storage due to inaccessibility). It is a small hostel, but great people, decent kitchen, and upgraded clean facilities. Location is close enough to the centre of town and away from noise. I’d recommend and go back again with a different bed to use for storage.
