Wifi is super fast, place feels really homey and like a labor of love. In a cool old building with lots of books! It was really quiet while I was there which was exactly what I needed. It's a bit far from the city centre, but the best fish and chips place is right next door (seriously best fish and chips I've had in New Zealand), so it kind of makes up for that. They don't nickel and dime you for everything you do and it's just a nice place all around!

Great Hostel! Huuuge TV with tons of films, free xbox, pool and table tennis quite industrial kitchen, but I guess that's fine washing machines weren't working when I was there which is a minus Location: right in between beach and city, so quite good actually! Rooms were clear and crispy downside: wifi .... come on it's 2018 unlimited wifi is a thing!

Very uncomfortable beds, a reasonably long walk from the city cenntre, but close to the sea in an atmospheric old building. Not the worst place to stay

Your standard hostel bedrooms, kitchen way too small for the number of guests. Had a free pool table and ping pong table which was a great touch . It’s basically a kiwi experience stop with new people everyday .

The common areas are nice and spacious, but the general feeling is a bit weird due to the big amount of people volunteering there, which creates the feeling of "invading" someone's house than being in a hostel. The kitchen is way too small for that amount of people, the matrasses are TERRIBLE and the laundry area free of charge but MESSY. The showers don't have much pressure and run out of hot water. The staff is friendly though and the video room very nice. Common areas closed from 11pm til 7

Been backpacking for 3 years and have stayed in my fair share of hostels but I've never seen staff this bad. Reception is empty 90% of the time. Literally if you need anything you can wait a couple hours or start scouring the building. It's made worse by the fact you need a piece of paper from them for every gb you use on the wifi, which means you'll be looking for them often. The owner (or manager) seems to be annoyed whenever he is needed as well.

Bathrooms don’t meet the basic needs for a hostel this size. 1 cubicle toilet and 2 showers for male. Downstairs bathrooms look like they’ve not been cleaned since it was built. Kitchen is very very small. WiFi is super slow. And that’s if it even works for you. Not sure about these people praising the WiFi. Bed comfort very hit and miss. Staff were very nice. Lounge area is nice (pool table, ping pong, Xbox, tv), but doesn’t make up for the rest. Get the basics right first.
