My boyfriend and I from the states stayed here for originally 3 nights and ended up staying over a week. This hostel blew our minds as well as the town. Can’t wait to come back. PURA VIDA ⛱

Really enjoyed staying at the Lion Fish. It's a fun, social hostel but not overly loud or party focused. Has lot's of nice spots for hanging out, and the bar with cheap drinks was great. Staff was helpful and kind. One thing, the Wifi was pretty terrible and pretty infuriating to use. But that's about it!!

Great location, mostly volunteer staff and the place has decent security. The kitchen was disgusting. Small, counters filthy and hardly ever maintained. No room in either of the fridges too. The bathrooms were cleaned frequently however they are very dark and still gave me a dirty feeling. It was good for a night.

Communal: hangout areas need improving- small not enough seating. Offer free coffee but no milk (not even powdered milk) or sugar.

If you want to be in the centre of Puerto Viejo then the location is perfect. Don’t expect much else: filthy rooms and sheets, bed bugs, mosquito grills instead of walls to the outside, and dogs running around.

Go here if you wanna get hammered do dingers and smoke weed. Fried chicken out front. The owners/owner seemed legit. Homie just surfs everyday. The lady seemed alright but also kinda like she just didn’t give a fu$k that I was a customer. They did give me some money back though after they moved us, we waited for a room all day then the dog pissed all over the bed and we had to move again lol. Anyway, I’ll never go back.

This is my first review on the many hostels I have stayed as I am normally happy so long as I have a bed and somewhere to lock away my valuables. But at the lion fish there was no lockers available as they had advertised. Most of the doors had been pulled of the lockers so not the most secure even if you was lucky enough to get one. The hostel also seems to be staffed entirely by volunteers, which can be great and they were all lovely but limited knowledge as only been there a few days.
