Everything was great apart from no free Wi-Fi. I would expect this to be a given in this day and age.

Stayed here 3nights in a 12 bed dorm and for how cheap it was, I was blown away by the place. It's a beautiful old building, has a great room on the ground level to hang out with couches around a fireplace. the staff were really friendly and the beds weren't bad either. No one was rowdy, I slept well every night and there were heaters in the room to keep us warm. The shower was the only downside, low pressure and I found it very touchy, and would go to either really cold or really hot.

The hostel had a great atmosphere: the living room was very nice, allowed people to mingle. The facilities were clean, the staff was very friendly and helpful. I stayed in the female only dorm room. The bathroom was in the room, which made everything quite easy. It could be a little loud outside probably depending on the group of people staying at the hostel but i did not mind.. There is a bottle shop very close by btw! :D

Location is great, only one stop out of free tram zone. Staff is nice and helpful. A lot of people in and out of the hostel all the time. Not so easy to sleep. No wifi.

The Nunnery says

I think what makes us extra special is the extras we offer our guests. We've got free breakfast every morning plus free events all week like movie night on Tuesdays, homemade soup on Wednesdays, pub crawls on Thursdays and wine and nibbles or BBQ on Fridays.
We really aim to offer a unique experience; after all, our hostel was built in 1888 and for 60 years used to be an actual nunnery! We take pride in helping our guests enjoy the very best Melbourne has to offer.
The nearest main attractions are the Melbourne Museum and Melbourne Exhibition centre; personally, I recommend guests check out the bars, cafes and restaurants around nearby Brunswick Street and Smith Street. Jacqui, Assistant Manager
