The Phoenix Hostel was established in 2008 and has been often described as the perfect place to discover Shanghai because of its amazing location. Our friendly and helpful reception staff will be happy to help you plan your day’s activities and organize tickets booking to local events and tours. When you’re done exploring for the day the Phoenix Bar located on the rooftop terrace is a great place to relax and unwind, especially on warm summer nights.

This friendly hostel provides great value hotel standard accommodation at hostel prices in an amazing location. To meet the requirements of our customers, we offer 50 rooms with different room types: comfortable double beds, bright single rooms and excellent dormitory rooms. Our rooms have black-out curtains to keep the dawn out and have double glazed windows to help you get a good sleep if you need one.

Our rooftop is a great place to relax after spending a day exploring Shanghai. A chilled-out space to meet new friends, read books from our free selection, play games or plan your next party.

We hope that our guests will make the most of their time in China - a country with an interesting and diverse culture. In this perspective we hold numerous activities that embrace the Chinese culture such as dumpling making class, Chinese calligraphy, Chinese table games and many more.

The hostel is situated on south Yunnan road, also known as the Yunnan food street because of its amazing selection of restaurants. Very close to People's Square metro station (a 5-minute walk), it is the perfect starting point for sightseeing, shopping, people gazing, exploring and getting to the far corners of this huge city.

Yuyuan (Jade garden), city God temple, White Cloud Taoist temple and the old town Huaihai road, Xintiandi and Dongtai road antique market are close by.

There is still so many information to share about our hostel, but it would take ages and end up in writing a book or making a film to explain the whole experience, so don't hesitate anymore and come to meet us. Let's create wonderful memories together :) View House Rules

An absolutely perfect place. Safe, secure, clean, the staff are amazing and friendly. It's also really well-situated, within walking distance to the Bund, Shanghai Museum and Nanjing Road, and on a street full of delicious food. If I could give it more than a 10 out of 10 rating, I would. :)

The Pheonix Hostel is quite honestly the best hostel that I’ve stayed in. The atmosphere is great, the staff are super friendly and helpful and put on some great events (would recommend the foodie tour), the rooms are great, there are some super interesting guests staying there, and the rooftop bar is awesome. Thanks to Jacky, Emma - and in particular Celine for generally being a legend and walking me to the subway station!

Had a great one night stay at the Phoenix in Shanghai! Céline was super awesome and friendly at the check in counter. Security is good in the rooms and the at the front desk, serving good breakfast on the nice rooftop patio is a nice bonus as well. Highly recommend if you're planning on coming through Shanghai!

The staff were very helpful and friendly. The hostel was easy to find, very close to the metro, and also had a restaurant on the other side of the reception area, which was quite affordable. The dorm was spacious and clean. My only complaint concerns the bed, which was rather hard to sleep on.

This is by far the best hostel experience I’ve had in China. The staff member Celine was super attentive and willing to help with anything. The location wa great, close to a metro and only 25 minutes walking to the famous riverside views. At the end of a long day of sightseeing, you come back to the hostel and follow the sound of voices to the rooftop bar. The atmosphere in the bar in the evening makes it really easy to meet other solo travelers and is one of the most valuable parts of the place

Great location, lots of food and shops nearby and 2 minutes from the metro. There's a nice bar upstairs with ping pong that serves a good breakfast (extra cost). Only downsides were the internet was mostly unusable, no matter which one I connected to (they have a few), it was slow and unresponsive. Also the place was very busy so laundry had to be dropped off for staff to do and it took 24hrs. But rooms were nice and I'd stay again.

Although this is the only hostel I've stayed at in Shanghai, I'd assume it's better than your average Shanghai hostel given what I've experienced in Shanghai's lifestyle. However, the shared bathroom reeked of urine. The receptionist (Celine?) was friendly, charming, and accommodated my two friends (who didn't have a reservation) to 2 available beds. She was the only staff behind the desk late at night, and even when she was overwhelmed with 10+ guests, she held composure and did her best.

    Very Good

A decent enough place, nice staff, the restaurant below the hostel is great with good food, the roof top bar is overpriced and a drink costs double prices, rooms were clean and simple with see-through toilet walls, our laundry was still wet when we got it back 24 hours after we dropped it off but we had to leave the next day, so had to take it, staff are nice and good people, wifi was average for China, hostel is in a good location, the guests mostly English GAP year.
