Property Description

In 2014, the Slow Leopard was opened as a little sports bar dishing up a couple of different burgers. By 2017 it has become one of Dar es Salaam premiere bars and definitely the number one spot for burgers! Late in 2016 we opened the upstairs guesthouse with a double room as well as a 6 bed dormitory available for travelers looking for a place to crash at a reasonable budget.

Supremely located in the leafy suburb of Masaki, the Slow Leopard Dar is just minutes away from shops, cafes, restaurants and bars. From Masaki, it is a short trip to the city, the ferry to Zanzibar or even the islands of Bongoyo or Mbuya. Our bar downstairs is a favourite local spot, dishing up our famous burgers and cold drinks with plenty of live sport available.

So whatever your reason for being in Dar es Salaam, whether it be work, travel or catching up with friends, you can count on a clean and comfy bed in an air conditioned room and a cold drink at The Slow Leopard.

This is one of the best hostels I have stayed in lately! The location was wonderful as it is close to a traditional market, a laundromat, and a grocery store. Dorms and bathrooms are very clean! Rooms have AC and showers have hot water! The owner is great and will provide recommendations and help you book a reliable/safe taxi. The food in the restaurant is also wonderful!

Fantastic place for me to start my 7th African Adventure, so you know I have been in many hostels on the continent. Staff was amazingly helpful. Though they do not have a 'travel desk' The owner, provided excellent map of Dar that gives one plenty of information about the city and he had ideas for my next adventure and how to make it happen. Aziza, one of the staff, went above and beyond the call to help me get to the National Museum.

After my first night I decided to extend my stay here. I met great people during my stay in this hostel. It’s quiet, but so are most hostel in Tanzania! It’s part of a sports bar so there are more people around in the evening. Staff are very nice and friendly. The owner is really helpful. Just ask if you need a hand to make any other arrangements for your trip! I would absolutely recommend staying in the Slow Leopard.

Nice hostel with nice atmosphere. The staff really helped us arranging the transport to midland Tanzania (where internet couldn't helpful).

This is a restaurant/bar with a hostel attached, rather than vice-versa, for whatever that's worth. A lot of locals go there to eat and drink after work. It doesn't have the kind of hostel camaraderie that is common in a backpacker's hostel.... again, for whatever that's worth. That said, I met a lot of interesting people and had a great stay at the Slow Leopard. Try to be there on a Thursday night for the amazing Slow Sessions live music. I'll be back.

Upon booking and arriving I was impressed with the facilities. The lobby, garden, and barbwere all beautiful. While being led to our room we passed a pile of feces (possibly from the dog) in the hallway. We then came into our room, which was spacious and comfortable with air conditioning, but with an open window and full of mosquitos. We left and returned later and the feces was still there. We woke and could smell it in our room. We mentioned it during breakfast and they cleaned it immediately

Nice hostel in Dar, pretty quiet overall even though it is on a fairly busy street. Great bar and restaurant especially if you crave hamburgers! The music on Thursday night was exceptional with 4 bands playing for almost 5 hours. Great time. Security could be better, most of the lockers in the dorn are not lockable

It was nice, near a bunch of beach resorts. Not my usual vibe, but it was a nice place to decompress at the end of my trip. The staff was very friendly as well. It's a bit of a trek to the typical attractions in Dar, but felt very secure.
