Property Description

The Treehouse is a small friendly hostel hidden away in the tiny village of Grünau. Sitting in the middle of the Totes Gebirge (the dead mountains) the area around the hostel provides an ideal environment for outdoor activities like hiking, skiing, swimming, or just relaxing.

The secluded location ensures a good nights rest, unless you choose to join the fun in the downstairs bar, where guests and locals mingle together to chat or have a game of pool or table soccer. There are mountain bikes for hire for those who want to explore the surrounding area. There is even a tennis and basket ball court that is free to use and in winter time the ski-lifts are only 200m away. We'll supply the ski clothing free of charge.

The largest room in our hostel has only 6 beds and each room has its own private shower and toilet. And best of all, a BREAKFAST BUFFET IS INCLUDED in the room price!

The Treehouse is easy to get to. Just an hour train ride off the main line between Salzburg and Vienna. So if you're tired of the big cities get off the beaten track and come and experience some of the real Austria. View House Rules

The treehouse hostel is one of the best hostels I have ever stayed in. It feels like you are staying in a home not a hostel. Gerhard, Sonia and the team make you feel like family from the moment you arrive. The hostel is in a fantastic location, with endless hikes and bike rides at your door step. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a getaway. The only regret I have is not staying longer. Thank you to the tree house team!

Travellers! I urge you to take a break from the city life and spend a couple of peaceful days in this beautiful town called Grunau. The Treehouse is was the perfect place to relax and unwind in the serenity of nature and Gerhard and his team were incredibly hospitable and friendly. I wish I had stayed longer and will definitely return before I head home. The beds, the showers, the company and Gerhard’s home cooked meals made the Treehouse a home away from home straight away. Thank you Gerhard!

We loved this place. We easily filled two days with a long walk and bike ride. The host cooks dinner and there's a small bar available too. It wasn't crowded so had more of an extended family feel. Definitely recommend you leave a couple of days to stop here and enjoy the outdoors.

This is by far my favourite hostel so far. It had such a homely feel, Gerhard was absolutely amazing and so helpful with things to do not to mention the best cook! If you’re planning to visit this beautiful wee town do yourself a favour and stay at the treehouse!

The owner of the treehouse defines the word hospitable. He is extremely generous, kind and welcoming. He makes homemade food, services the bikes he has for hire, sends you where you'd like to go with a hand drawn map. He will drive you into town to catch the bus if you'd like. The list goes on. My experience at the treehouse was spectacular. The natural beauty and hospitality make this a 'must stop' location.

Amazing place to stay. This really does not feel like a hostel and more like staying with a family, the owner is so lovely and accommodating, nothing is to much trouble. The young girl that is currently working there is also amazing. Highly recommend the food, especially the lasagna!! Would 100% stay here again!!

Super homey vibes and great dinners! Slightly out of the way location which does also have its benefits. Kinda pricey but still really enjoyed my stay here. Great place to relax and meet fellow travellers especially since the wifi isn’t the best. Gerhard is a wonderful host as well!

I had a wonderful stay here. It is the perfect place to go if you just want a few days surrounded by nature. The scenery is just beautiful. The staff at this hostel are so friendly and make you feel so welcome, it was just like being at home. The home cooked meals were incredible, I can definitely recommend them. The only improvements I could suggest would be to provide soap in the bathrooms in the dorms, and also for guests to feel welcome to use even just basic kitchen facilities.
