Overview

Welcome to our little slice of Mexican paradise at the Yak Lake House in Bacalar. You’ll find us right on a peaceful lagoon – ideal for a little bit of much-needed serenity! Wake to views of the water, and head onto the outdoor terrace to watch the sunrise. Fill up on a free breakfast (we’re talking fresh fruit, cereal and, of course, coffee). Take daily strolls on our private dock, which stretches into the lagoon, or hop on a boat trip to Pirate Cove. When you get back, get chatting over cheap drinks in the bar, or get comfy with a book in the common room.

Location

You may not want to leave our dreamy little haven, but if you do, there’s plenty to see. We’re three minutes’ walk from St Felipe Fort Museum, and even closer to buzzing bars and restaurants (taco and tequila, anyone?). If you fancy exploring Bacalar, we’re just 15 minutes from ADO bus station. When it’s time to go, just hop in a taxi or bus for 35 minutes to get to Chetumal airport.

Rooms and Dorms

When it comes to rooms, take your pick: there are spacious privates for couples and dorms if you fancy meeting new people. All rooms have private bathrooms as well as air con to keep you cool. Your linen's included, and you can keep your bags safe in a handy locker.

Extras and activities

Need to check in with home? Just jump on the free Wi-Fi (warning: Bacalar's views might cause serious envy). If you’re heading out tonight, don’t worry about cutting the fun short – there’s no curfew, and a 24-hour reception. Or, you can just take it easy, and try your hand at a board game with a buddy. Popcorn cooked up in our microwave may just make you the most popular person in your dorm.

Great hostel with lots of social activities, rentals, tours etc. Really nice place to chill out rooms were comfortable and beds complete with lights and charging points! The one thing to note is that there is loud music all night (from the bar next door we think) so bring ear plugs!

    Fabulous

Good overall however some of the day trips seemed a bit “scammy” as they charge you 200 pesos to drive you somewhere like a swim spot or a market that would normally cost way less to get to yourself. Also all the rooms back onto the bar area that stays very loud until after midnight so good luck sleeping before then.

Crazy expensive for what it is, but nice, fun atmosphere and nice staff. You really don’t want to stay anywhere else in Bacalar. The hostel clearly takes advantage of this though and all a bit of a rip off!!!

We left here after one night. The staff were nice enough to refund the rest of our stay however they had kept the whole hostel up the night before throwing a huge party and neglected to tell any guests that the day of the lake closure had moved (FYI it's usually Wednesday) and the cenotes were also closed. There is not a lot else to do in Bacalar! Other than that the whole hostel is in need of refurbishment. Breakfast was very basic.
