Property Description

Need a top quality hostel in Rio de Janeiro? we are all about giving you an authentic experience: sun, sand and sexy samba await you here and at Tupiniquim we can make it happen …
Travelling solo or rocking up in a crew we've got the perfect dorm or private room for you and a legendary rooftop bar onsite with a marvellous view of the Jesus Statue!

Tupiniquim is about the experience of being in Brazil, our cook only makes regional Brazilian food, our film selection has an emphasis for Brazilian cult films, the music that we play is selected among the best in Brazil, we call it 'brasilidade' in Portuguese and our goal is to make you feel that by the end of your stay.

But above all our hostel is all about quality. We don't BS you here: you get clean facilities, bathrooms and linen. This is not a place where you'll be mosquito bitten, where you'll find roaches, bedbugs, or whatever. There are no overbookings or dumb receptionists here. We don't overcharge you like so many hostels in Copacabana and Ipanema do. But also we are not dirty cheap and thus incapable of offering decent services. You'll get the best bang for your buck here, that IS a promise.

I mean, are you really willing to pay up to double the price so you can stay in some dumb-dirty hostel just because it is like 100 meters nearer Ipanema beach ?? ... we are at a 7 min. bus ride from the beach which is at the bottom of the Sugar Loaf Mountain (it is called the Red Beach). Between the Jesus Statue and the Sugar Loaf, and next to Copacabana, we are on the best central location. Near every major tourist attraction.

Perhaps you are willing to stay on just another hostel full of Europeans, Americans, Aussies and Israelis ?? ... what if you could stay in a place where 60 % of the guests are Brazilians ?? then you would get a real Brazilian experience starting at the hostel, wouldn’t that be awesome?

My friend, half of the hostels in Rio are complete crap and most of the other half are just dumb-nothing-to-do-except-for-sleeping places ... so you think you are pretty smart by booking a place 5-10 reals cheaper ?? a place with triple bunks, 12 + people dorms, no air conditioning, thin mattresses, lousy breakfast, no bar, no fun ??

We have rooms for all kinds of needs, I am pretty sure there is one that will fit you perfectly:

☛ You want to come with your family, parents or kids ?? Private rooms that can accommodate 1 to 4 people are perfect for you.
☛ You want to come with a small group of friends ?? A quadruple private is hands down your best choice.
☛ You are a girl and you are old school, or have a jealous boyfriend or just want to feel more comfortable among ’sisters’, we have a very nice 6-people girls only room :)
☛ You are the poorest guy on earth ?? Don’t worry, we have 8-bed dorms that are pretty cheap and still have all our free services.
☛ You do not want to deal with lots of people but do not have the money to pay a private ?? our 3-people mixed dorm is almost like a private room.
☛ You want the best cost/benefit, not a private, but not an overcrowded mixed dorm ?? We have 6 and 8 people dorms.

We accept all debit and credit cards:

Debit Cards: Visa Electron, Maestro.
Credit Cards: Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Diner’s Club.

All our rooms (except for two 6-people shared bathroom dorms) have their own bathroom inside the room (hence ensuite) and include the following facilities free of charge:

☛ Air Conditioning from 8 p.m. to 8 a.m.
☛ Wi-Fi all over the hostel, also within the rooms (50 Mbps speed)
☛ Linen ( Pillow with pillowcase, bedsheet and a blanket)
☛ Security lockers (they require a padlock)
☛ Breakfast (sandwich, cake, fruit, juice, tea, coffee & milk) from 8 to 10 a.m.

Besides that we have many other services, most of them for free:

☛ 24 hour Reception
☛ Free Pool Table & Bar service, open 24/7: water, soda, beer, caipirinha, etc …
☛ Open terrace with a view of Christ the Redeemer open from 7 a.m. ‘till 10 p.m.
☛ Open kitchen for our guests to prepare their own food (we don't have a fridge)
☛ TV room with a super 54” screen: Home Theater, Netflix and a selection of more than 1300 selected films, all of this for free …
☛ We have a place for you to wash your clothes by hand and dry them
☛ Rent (R$ 1 per day) or buy (R$ 20) a 30 mm padlock to use in our lockers
☛ Luggage storage room (in case you have already checked out and want/need to hang around)
☛ No minimum or maximum stay (except for special events such as New Year's Eve or Carnival)
☛ No lockout or curfew.

Central location to all major attractions:
☛ 4 min. subway (one station) to Copacabana Beach.
☛ 10 min. subway (4 stations) to Ipanema Beach.
☛ 12 min. subway (5 stations) to all the Historical Downtown of Rio.
☛ 15 min. bus to Lapa, Domestic Airport (Santos-Dumont), Lagoa, Botanical Garden and the Sugar Loaf Mountain.
☛ 25 min. bus to the Statue of Christ the Redeemer.
☛ 30 min. subway (12 stations) to the Maracanã Stadium.
☛ 35 min. subway (9 stations) to Barra da Tijuca Beach
☛ 40 min. bus to the Central Bus Station (Rodoviária)
☛ 50 min. bus or taxi to the International Airport (Galeão)
☛ And of course: Uber is always available and pretty cheap everywhere in Rio :)

Specific policies for special events such as New Years Eve, Carnival, Rock in Rio, etc...

☛ Minimum Stay: 5 nights (3 for New Years Eve)
☛ Payment Method: credit card or wire transfer (western union)
☛ Cancellation Policy: Non Refundable in all cases
☛ No-Show Policy: It will be charged the remaining due at check in.
☛ Standard Rate policy: 50% in advance will be charged after your booking.
☛ Non-Refundable Rate policy: 100% in advance will be charged after your booking.

So even if you choose Free Cancellation, and because of the special dates, there are no refunds, ok?

After your booking is confirmed by hostelworld.com, you will be contacted to proceed and arrange the payment method. Failure to complete the payment in 5 working days will result in cancellation of your booking. Unfortunately it has to be done after the initial reservation because we cannot do it within Hostelworld Also consider that this is non-refundable: we take all these precautions because loads and loads of people ask for these specific dates and we cannot afford to have people 'not showing up’. One of the best Hostels I've been to. So welcoming and really gives an authentic Carioca experience :). I barely speak Portuguese and still felt like I was at home! As soon as you book you get a personal message, and get added to the group chat :). Staff is extremely helpful, and the breakfast was great. It's right near great bars & cafes and a quick taxi to downtown. Very secure set up gives peace of mind to all travelers. Would recommend to all my friends, I miss the team already!

This is a very cozy spot in a nice area in Rio. Didn't see any of the violence for which the city is notorious. The hostel itself is at walking distance from the rain forest at the famous Sugar Loaf. Easy to hike to the 2nd mountain. Bring your gear if you're into rock climbing or bouldering, it's a paradise. So many beautiful things to do nearby. For advice on trekking or natural landscapes talk to Alex. He is the owner of the hostel and was most willing to help. Merci!

Great staff, very friendly and helpful. Lots of good restaurants and bars right around and close to easy to and get to all the hot spots in Rio, about 5 minute walk to metro or Uber’s super cheap. The beds were also more comfortable than the other spots I stayed in Brazil.

The location is great and the staff are super friendly and helpful and speak excellent English. We stayed in a private room and the en-suite bathroom was pretty unclean but manageable for the two nights we were there. Our room was facing the street and the noise was unbelievable! We couldn’t sleep one night and we’re both normally very heavy sleepers! Breakfast was pretty bad but, since it was included in the price of a hostel I wasn’t expecting much better. Overall, not bad

Botafogo is well situated if you want to be midway between the beaches of Rio and its city centre. There's a metro station a short walk away that goes to both places. The hostel itself is serviceable but nothing special. The breakfast is good though. I would recommend this place if you want to travel cheaply and don't have a car.

Definitely a great value for the money. The rooms are very basic, and could use a little touching up. Staff is super friendly too, and I always felt like my belongings were safely secured.

There was no real atmosphere here when we stayed (but this may have been due to an off season slump). There is a pretty roof terrace with a view of Christ the Redeemer in the distance when it is clear. The room was clean and comfortable and there is under-bed storage. Complimentary breakfast was decent and a selection of tea and coffee available.

We ended up staying around 5 days in Tupiniquim hostel. At first it seemed really quiet but we ended up meeting a lot of other travellers as well as Brazilians coming to work in the city (who were super friendly). Staff were helpful, breakfast was fine and the location was really safe and central. We would recommend this hostel and would return if ever in Rio again.

Unfortunately the entire place is tremendously dirty, and it seems like there's no worries about maintenance at all. They will serve you anything for breakfast. From poor quality coffee to old cake. The staff didn't help either. It seems like they haven't had any training whatsoever regarding customer service. We had to experience several uncomfortable situations, like having the staff yelling at each other in front of the guests. We feel like it was not a fair trade at all.
