If Pedro is still working when you visit, it is a must to sign up for dinner when he cooks! Location is perfect for exploring Gaslamp and only a short trip down to the beaches. Staff were lovely and informative and if you get the chance take them up on their offer to join the guided walking tour of Tijuana. Would 100% stay here again

Excellent location, very nice facilities: the kitchen is super well stocked, bathrooms were very clean, and the free towels were a bonus! The atmosphere was social but chill; everyone I met was super nice and friendly, and I almost felt bad that I had made plans with friends and couldn’t hang out. Only con was that the reception staff, while perfectly competent and by no means rude, were also not particularly welcoming, and I would have been hesitant to approach them with a problem or question.

    1. Cockroaches in the toilet. Told the reception the guy in response said 'No Way'! I guess that was all they did to meet the problem. 2. The Toilets are EXTREMELY small. So if you are a big guy good luck fitting in. 3. The hostel in all is congested. There is not much space incase you dont want to sit in the room or have work to do. I went to their lounge which was filled with their staff who were loud and playing games. In the price I paid I can definitely get a much better place to stay.

Too much partying and drinking during late hours of the night. I was unable to get adequate rest for an appointment I had in the morning because of all the noise. Also, my belongings were moved to another bed the second night when I left the hostel to get food. I did not like being forced to move because.another guest preferred my bed over the empty one.

USA Hostels San Diego says

I think that what makes us truly unique is that we're set in a historic 1880s building in the heart of the Gaslamp entertainment district in downtown San Diego. Having been both a brothel and a children's home and purported to be haunted, the hostel's colourful combination of eclectic artwork and Victorian architecture mixed with Mexican elements makes it unlike any other hostel in the city.
The location of the hostel can't be beat; all the entertainment is right outside the door. Also convenient and appreciated is that many other tourist attractions are walking distance from the hostel, including the Midway Museum, Seaport Village, Balboa Park and the world-famous San Diego Zoo. Personally, I'd say the zoo is the place not to be missed, as it's unlike most of the zoos in the world. In addition to its size, animals are housed in natural settings. Zoo admission helps this non-profit's efforts to save and repopulate endangered species.
We're ideally suited for those aged 21+, small groups, weekend getaways, stopovers to/from Mexico and those just looking for sunshine and good weather all year 'round. Brigit, COO of USA Hostels
