Staff/Volunteers are really friendly and helpful. The bike tour is great, Jack’s pub crawl is fun and a great way to meet people.

This was my 2nd hostel I have ever stayed in and I had a great experience. It felt secure with getting into the hostel and getting into my room. Everything seemed clean and in order.

Pretty nice hostel! A bit of a walk from the closest BART (Powell) and Union Square but nothing too crazy. Front desk girl was super sweet and friendly, it was a very welcoming first experience with staff. Participated in their $5 dinner night, and the gumbo was so darn good I think I felt hungrier afterwards than before I ate. Everyone seemed really outgoing which is cool to make friends. However, at more than $60 a night it definitely is something to consider in your travel budget.

Great place, in town for a conference - even if it is 4 shared room ensuite it was clean and comfortable. Staff is efficient and friendly. I didn't take advantage of the events or economical dinners organized but I can see they would have been good. Only thing is that when there is a chance to remodel, consider bigger lockers and wider rungs for ladders to the top bunk.

Great great staff! I made a mistake when booking and the girl at the front desk was super helpful and fixed it for me! The area can be a bit dodgy at night so just be mindful of that

Good hostel! This was probably the most secure hostel. Unfortunately it bordered a bit of a dodgy area (Tenderloin district) which you can't do much about, but otherwise it's location was quite good (about 7 min walk to Union Square). The rooms, beds and facilities offered were great. Atmosphere was pretty quiet which is good if you're after that. It's certainly not a party hostel. Outside activities (walking tour) were done by third parties, however I think you can find much better ones.

Cozy rooms, nice staff and a great lounge/playing room for meeting new people! The hostel has many activities planned for pretty much all weekdays and has a nice breakfast. The only counter-point is the difficulty in accessibility, since there are stairs in the main entrance and the old elevator is hard to figure out. There are many shopping spots and restaurants nearby, it's very close to the Union Square and the Powell bart station. Overall, a great experience.

The hostel was clean, safe and had good facilities. I was travelling alone and felt the atmosphere was quite quiet, the activities did not seem to get much uptake so I didn’t really socialise with anyone from the hostel, more on external tours. But the location was good, the staff were friendly and helpful and overall I really enjoyed my trip

This is a great hostel very good value for money and the location is good close to public transport. The 4 bed dorm I stayed in was fine clean and comfortable I enjoyed it here and would stay again. The staff are also very friendly and helpful.

It was ok, big and with many common facilities, one of the best hostels I have ever been in this aspect. I did not like the fact that the breakfast was so poor, always the same and no variety. It made you full but it was not healthy. Some member of the stuff were not that open and maybe they could have cheer up the people, I mean, there were many amazing activities but so few people joined them. It looked that all the people did not want to socialize.

USA Hostels San Francisco says

Besides being located only a few blocks from the cable cards and Powell Street (which is kind of the heart of the city), what makes our location special is two main things - staff and facilities. Many of our staff have been with us for years and really do enjoy helping guests come to love San Francisco as much as they do. Our staff know all the great, off-the-beaten path places to go and are happy to share their local secrets.
And for guests choosing to 'hang out' at the hostel, there are a variety of places within the building where they can get comfortable. If they need alone time, all our dorms feature 'privacy pods', an exclusively-designed addition to each bed that features a light, shelf, outlet and screening from other guests. Or, they can hide away in our quiet library and catch up on reading. If they're ready to mingle, we have a large lounge with pool and foosball tables.
We're suited for guests of all flavours and ages, groups of up to 50 people, long-haul resting stops, weekend getaways and students - we even have a student residence on the top two floors! Brigit, COO
