Their uniqueness is due to their construction, which have been created out of the buoyant totora reeds that grow in the shallows of the lake. The island is constructed from abundant mlayers of totora, which are constantly replenished from the top as they rot from the bottom, so the ground is always soft and springy.

One of the best experiences in SA we have had! Lorenzo and his family are lovely. He took us on the boat, showed us how to chop Totora reeds, made boats from the reeds, went fishing and showed us the local area as well as information about their way of life. Lunch, dinner & breakfast were included & were all delicious! The rooms are great. Wrap up warm! They do give you water bottles which work a treat. Very relaxing and it was so nice to experience the Uros with the locals!

I stayed one night on the island. Lorenzo & Maria welcomed me with a warm smile and a hug, they are lovely people. Communication was easy, via email with their son Richard who speaks English. A taxi collected me from Puno & we met Lorenzo with his boat. The island is small, there is places to chill, read a book or watch the world go by. It was cold but it’s the middle of winter! Layer up & there’s heaps of blankets on the beds! If you want a real cultural experience, away from crowds do this!

Incredible experience staying in a traditional hut on one of the floating islands. Lovely family who go out of their way to show you their life and give you amazing stay. Bear in mind you cant charge anything on the island plus no wifi. Bring your own toilet paper and bottled water

This stay was one of my top experiences of my three month Latin America trip. The family was awesome and explained their way of life to me and took me on a tour of the community. It was so special. I cannot emphasize enough how much I hope you stay with them. Spanish is helpful. Mine is not great but we were able to communicate. You will have some down time on the island so be prepared to sit and read a book for a bit or something.

Such a unique experience to stay with Lorenzo and Maria! A taxi took me to the shore, and they shuttled me to the island in their fishing boat. Lorenzo was an excellent tour guide, showing me how the island is constructed with Totora, taking me fishing & cruising in the Mercedes Benz, visiting the local schools. Maria cooked delicious meals for me and gave a hot water bottle for my bed, which was extremely comfortable. Be sure to bring some soles for Uros entry fee and to buy handicraft gifts.

We had a great time with Lorenzo and his wife!! The Island is beautlful and perfect to relax and get to know another culture at the same time. We totally recommend to spend a night at this island to get an inside view instead of seeing the sea with 40 other tourists. (But you should speak Spanish!!)

What an amazing cultural experience. The island is beautiful and the room is authentic and cosy. It does get cold at night but the blankets are sufficient in keeping you warm. The toilets and shower facilities are fine too and very near the accommodation. The host Lorenzo is brilliant, a lovely guy with a kind family who provided a filling breakfast and put on activities for us to do such as making miniature reed boats and going on a trip around the islands.

First, this was an amazing and unique experience that I would highly recommend. It includes 3 meals and Lorenzo is amazing, but only speaks Spanish, so my daughter had to translate. Again, it was an amazing experience, and we were planning on tipping, but at the end, the price they told us was about 100 soles ($30) more than the price through the website, and my daughter could hear them discussing what to charge us. Take a copy of your receipt, but the stay was well worth what they charged.

We stayed one night on the island which was perfect as there is not much to do out there if you don’t take a full day tour. The room was very comfortable and we were given lots of blankets to keep us warm. There’s no wifi but there are 2 USB ports to charge your phone. The bathroom is new & clean. Lorenzo & his wife were great hosts. She cooked us delicious meals and Lorenzo took us around the islands and showed us the schools and how he cuts the totoro weeds to maintain his island.
